Record LNG Truck Order Using Westport Innovations (WPRT) Engines Announced

The largest single order for LNG trucks using Westport Innovations (WPRT) natural gas engine systems was announced today.  Quebec based Robert Transport placed an order for 180 Peterbilt LNG trucks featuring Wesport HD Systems.  The HD Systems consist of a 15 litre engine, proprietary fuel injectors, LNG fuel tanks and pumps and electrical components.

Sunpower (SPWRA) & Iberdrola Renewables Partner On 30MW Colorado Solar Plant

SunPower (SPWRA) and Iberdrola Renewables have announced plans to partner on a 30MW solar plant on 216 acres of private land in Colorado which is expected to come online by the end of next year.  The plant will be owned and operated by Iberdrola and use Sunpower’s E19 solar panels mounted to the Suntracker systems to maximize efficiency.  The electricity generated will be sold under a long term contract to Xcel Energy (XEL).

Satcon (SATC) Posts Mixed Results, But Huge Growth Continues

Satcon Technologies (SATC) posted mixed earnings results this morning missing on the EPS side with a .02/share loss (vs analyst estimates of .01/share loss), but beating on the revenue side posting $58 million vs the analyst estimate of $52 million.  Despite the small miss in EPS, it’s a big improvement over the year ago quarter when the company posted a .12/share loss.  Revenues increased nearly 6 fold over the year ago quarter, so this remains … Read the rest

Molycorp (MCP): No Bubble In Rare Earth Metals (But China Has Just Resumed Shipments)

As owner of the largest US based deposit of rare earth metals, Molycorp (MCP) has benefited big from China’s control of these important metals as prices skyrocket due to limited supply and increasing demand.  CEO of Molycorp Mark Smith doesn’t see the recent surge as a bubble due to China’s restriction on exporting according to Bloomberg.  In July China announced plans to reduce its 2nd half export quota of rare earth metals by 72% … Read the rest

Tesla (TSLA) Unveils Home Of Model S Production

Tesla (TSLA) has unveiled not only the only auto manufacturing plant in California, but the first plant dedicated solely to electric car production at the former NUMMI site which it purchased in May.  Called the “Tesla Factory” (catchy eh?), will be used to produce the all electric sedan, the Model S and possibly other electric vehicles.

Itron (ITRI) Signs Major Contracts With Indonesian Utility For Smart Payment Meters

Itron (ITRI) Smashes Estimates, Surges AH

Itron (ITRI), smart meter extraordinaire, posted earnings results after the bell that were mighty impressive.  The company beat analyst estimates by a wide margin on both EPS and revenues posting an EPS of $1.06 on revenues of $576 million.  That compares with analyst estimates of .86/share on revenues of $530 million, so a significant beat for ITRI tonight and shares are rising 8% in after hours trading.  Quarter over quarter growth was big indicating the … Read the rest
