China BAK Battery (CBAK) is announcing this morning that it has won a new lithium battery contract with China’s leading e—bike manufacturer Geoby Electric and expects to win another supply deal should initial testing be successful. They will initially supply 1000 batteries. No word on the total value of the deal.

The US solar behemoth made headlines a year ago when it announced it would work with the China government and local businesses to develop a massive 2GW solar farm to power up to 3 million homes.
According to Benzinga, Deutsche Bank sees A123 Systems gaining significant market share of the lithium battery market based on achievement so far and comments from OEM’s and competitors that say AONE is a top 3 lithium battery supplier. They see general consumer demand for EV’s and improving margins as potential catalysts for the stock over the next year. It’s been a rough few weeks for shares of Power One (PWER) as the stock continues to correct after a huge run in the past year, but is seeing some buy interest this morning after it was announced that management has approved a 10 million share buyback program. It’s authorized for two years and begins immediately.

Auriga’s Mark Bachman was out with a note this morning saying LDK Solar’s (LDK) cash position looks precarious due to Q-Cells repayments and debt obligations and that they may need a fresh infusion of the green stuff soon, likely with an equity offering. They also see a possible sale of another chunk of its poly plant and/or debt restructuring.
They have not rating on LDK currently.

Wells Fargo initiated coverage on JA Solar (JASO) with a Market Perform rating and price target of $7 – 8. While the firm says fundamentals remain strong and shares inexpensive, they aren’t willing to rate the company an Outperform due to weaker demand/greater supply picture going forward.
Ener1 (HEV) has announced plans to restructure into three segments to better capitalize on opportunities and increase efficiency – transportation, utility grid and small format products. Each segment will have its own president with changes applied across the world.
