Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Completes 1MW Italian Solar Farm

Canadian Solar just announced that it has completed a solar farm in the town of Narni, located in the Umbria region of Italy.

The 1MW solar farm is constructed of f 4,000 Canadian Solar CS6P 230-Watt modules, installed without reinforced cement to minimize the damage to the landscape.

With Or Without German Subsidies, Solar Companies Can’t Keep Up With Demand (FSLR, TSL, STP, YGE)

According to Reuters, demand for solar panels has risen so sharply that industry leader First Solar is unable to keep up. Although First Solar’s business slowed down in the 3rd quarter, it is expected to pick up in the fourth, despite German solar subsidy cuts that are expected to hit July 1.

Reuters quotes First Solar’s Stephan Hansen saying “In 2010 we will not be able to produce enough modules to meet demand.”

Suntech Power (STP) Posts Strong Quarter, Raises Guidance

Suntech Power (STP) reported earnings this morning  that were just shy of analyst estimates on the EPS side due to a substantial currency exchange hit on a weakening Euro, but revenues beat analyst estimates and approached the record quarter in Q2 2008.  The company posted an EPS of .11/share vs the analyst estimate of .14/share on revenues of $588 million vs the analyst estimate of $560 million.  That’s a big jump over the year … Read the rest

Valence Technology just announced that they have received a new purchase order from Enova Systems for Valence’s U-Charge dynamic energy systems. The energy systems will be used in a fleet of 16 new Navistar IC CE Series hybrid-electric school buses.

SunEdison just announced that it has begun producing power from its new 1.1 megawatt rooftop solar system at the Staples fulfillment center in La Mirada, California. This is the 32nd solar power system that Staples has hosted for SunEdison. Staples purchases the power produced by the systems.

EnerNoc (ENOC) Adds 30MW Of Demand Response Capacity In California

EnerNOC  just announced that it is expanding its DemandSMART network in Northern California to provide an additional 30MW of demand response capacity, bringing EnerNOC’s total demand response capacity in the region to 70MW.

Raser Technologies (RZ) Begins Drilling At Lighting Dock

Raser Technologies (RZ) announced this morning that it has begun drilling in New Mexico at the Lighting Dock project.  The company is re-entering a well that was abandoned more than 25 years ago because the water wasn’t hot enough.  New technologies allow geothermal energy companies to extract energy from lower temperatures, so the company is giving it another go.
