Energy Focus (EFOI) saw a minor boost in shares yesterday following news that the company has received an additional $4.1 million in efficient lighting retrofit contracts. Half the contract is to upgrade large SE university, $1 million is for a military base and the rest is for a community college and elementary school.
Nexxus Lighting (NEXS) reported results this morning that are admittedly a bit confusing, but not as bad as the headlines in my opinion and I think the selling pre-market is a bit overdone, but we’ll see how the day progresses. The company recently sold its legacy commercial and pool lighting business to focus on its LED business which is a smart move and should pay off in the longer run.
Energy Focus (EFOI) has released results after the bell today, but I don’t see an EPS number in the press release. They are posting a revenue number of $9 million for the quarter. Yes that’s triple what they posted a year ago, but you can’t compare to the year ago quarter yet because of the Stone Ridge acquisition. Comparing to the previous two quarters with Stone Ridge revenue, it’s about inline ($8.4 million in the … Read the rest
China Intelligent Lighting (CIL), the only China LED stock on a major US exchange, has reported solid results this morning but missed a bit on the EPS side. The company posted an EPS of .17/share vs the analyst estimate of .20 on revenues of $20.25 million vs the analyst estimate of $18.6 million.
Orion Energy Systems (OESX), an efficient lighting solutions play, got back in the black after the bell today posting a non GAAP EPS gain of .03/share which beat the consensus estimate of a 1 cent share loss. Revenues came in a bit shy of analyst estimates at $13.7 million, but the company indicated it received an influx of orders right at the end of the quarter which were not able to be produced and shipped … Read the rest
General Electric (GE) will announce the launch of its 40W LED bulb for the household in about a month and now comes news that the company has developed a prototype 100W LED bulb that uses jet engine technology for noise and heat reduction. The 1500 lumen bulb is half the weight and size of the 600 lumen bulb that’s on the market today and was co-developed with the University of Maryland using a 2 year … Read the rest
24/7 Wall St published their list of the 25 most important alternative energy companies a few days ago and broke it down by category. I thought I’d highlight the companies they consider to be the most important in each category (which I agree with) and add in some of my own thoughts. There is one glaring omission in 24/7 Wall St’s report and that is geothermal. Geothermal remains the red headed step child of the … Read the rest
A few bullish analyst calls to tell you about this morning.
Yesterday I posted about Verenium’s (VRNM) approval in China for Purifine which sent the stock soaring. The pull back today is offering a 2nd chance opportunity. Shares have pulled back to what is now support around the 200 day moving average.
Olympia Capital chimed in on the news and upgraded the stock from Neutral to Buy and raised the price target from $3 to … Read the rest
LSI Industries (LYTS) is what I’d call an off the radar LED lighting play in the same group as an Orion Energy (OESX) and Nexxus Lighting (NEXS). These are the LED plays that don’t have the big profits and are on the cusp of growth. After reporting earnings results this morning, you could argue that LYTS is emerging as a new leader in the LED space. Actually, the growth really began last quarter when the … Read the rest
According to Barrons Barclaysinitiated coverage of the LED sector yesterday with ratings on Cree Inc (CREE), Veeco Instruments (VECO) and Aixtron (AIXG) which are what I’d call the top tier LED plays.
VECO gets the highest rating at Overweight. They like the fact the company is now an LED pure play with growth China.
