Altairnano (ALTI) Receives Small Business Innovation Research Grant

Altairnano just announced that it has received a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Technology . The grant will be used to develop better-performing energy storage options for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), a contract valued at $100,000. With the grant, Altairnano will be able to research and develop new cell chemistries that maintain performance even in extremely high temperatures.

Ener1 (HEV) And Nissan Working Together For Research

Ener1 just announced that its subsidiary, Enerdel, will be working with Nissan to research a new type of electrical conductive material. The material will be used to make better batteries for hybrids. The companies will research a new type of electrolyte at the Argonne National Laboratory.

ZAP Receives 100 Scooters Powered By Advanced Battery Technologies (ABAT)

ZAP has received a shipment of 100 electric vehicles powered by larger-format polymer lithium-ion batteries from Advanced Battery Technologies. This first shipment was for Zappy3 Li personal transporters, but the two companies plan to expand their partnership into larger vehicles soon, such as pickups, vans and the Alias roadster model that ZAP is developing.

Volvo Chooses Ener1(HEV) Batteries To Power Hybrid Demonstration Cars

Volvo has chosen Ener1’s lithium-ion batteries for its plug-in hybrid V70 demonstration cars. These cars are being tested in Europe as part of a program to deliver a commercial plug-in hybrid by 2012. The demonstration cars can go for 31 miles on a single charge, and can draw power from a normal household outlet. For long distance trips, the car uses an integrated diesel engine.

Renewable Energy Gets A $3 Billion Government Infusion

The US government announced today that they’ll soon begin accepting applications for around $3 billion in government funds to spur development in renewable energy across the country.  Previously, companies could file for a tax credit to cover a portion of development costs, but this provides an immediate infusion of cash to help meet the government’s goal of doubling renewable energy production over the next 3 years.

Arotech (ARTX) Scores 3 Million In Battery And Charger Orders

Arotech just announced that it has received $3 million worth of orders for rechargable lithium-ion batteries, chargers and related components.  Arotech focuses on supplying the military, police departments and private security firms. EnerDel (HEV) Gets $3.3 Million DOE Contract For Lithium Battery Research

EnerDel (HEV) has been awarded a $3.3 million contract by the Dept of Energy research for better safety and performance of lithium batteries.  The research, to be conducted jointly with Argonne National Laboratories, will be funded under the DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Program and aim to eliminate the overcharging of batteries at the chemical level.  EnerDel and Argonne have worked together in the past, receiving the Excellence in Technology Transfer award for their lithium-titanate chemistry. … Read the rest
