Converted Organics just announced that the World Sports Alliance (aka the WSA) and the Republic of Guinea will use the company’s food-waste composting technologies in Africa to turn food scraps into organic fertilizer for crops. Appliance Recycling Centers of America (ARCI) popped about 30% an hour ago, but is well off those highs after it was announced that it’s been awarded a contract by Xcel Energy (XEL) to provide refrigerator recycling services for the utility’s residential electric customers in Colorado and New Mexico. Advanced Environmental Technologies (AERT) Will Process Lower-Grade Recycled Plastics At New Factory

Advanced Environmental Technologies just announced that it will use a new, $11.5 million factory in Watts, Oklahoma to recycle lower-grade plastics. AERT hopes to use this strategy to reduce its costs for materials for its recycled plastic/wood fiber products. The company also plans to re-sell some of the lower grade plastic to other companies, thereby increasing its revenue stream and providing opportunities for revenue that extend beyond the seasonal demand for building supplies.

Darling Intl (DAR) Rises Above 200DMA On Earnings

Xcel Energy (XEL) To Install Biomass Gasification At Wisconsin Plant

Xcel Energy just announced that it will convert its Bay Front Power Plant in Ashland, WI, to run completely off of biomass. The company plans to install biomass gasification technology in the last coal-fired unit at the plant, once regulators. Under the current timeline, the plant could be completely converted by 2012.

Clean Harbors (CLH) To Acquire Eveready

Clean Harbors just announced a deal to acquire the Canadian company Eveready, Inc. The total cost of the acquisition will be $464 million, of which $202 million will be used to buy Eveready stock and $262 million will be used to acquire Eveready’s debt. The deal is expected to be concluded in the third quarter.

Converted Organics’ (COIN) Sutton, MA Food Waste Processing Facility Is Approved

Converted Organics just announced that it has received a permit from the MA Department of Environmental Protection for its Sutton, MA food waste processing facility. Like Converted Organic’s facility in Woodbridge, New Jersey, this facility will turn food waste into fertilizer for plants.

Fuel Tech Awarded Air Pollution Control Contracts Totaling $2.1 Million

Fuel Tech (FTEK) announced some additional air pollution control contracts this morning totaling $2.1 million which include an order from an existing customer for NOxOUT(R) Selective Non-Catalytic Reduction Systems to be installed at two city solid waste incinerators in France.  Orders were also received for a commercial High Energy Reagent Technology system & several HERT demonstrations for nitrogen oxide control.
