Applied Materials just announced the release of a new multiple screen printing technology called BacciniEsatto. The new technology works with Applied Materials’ Baccini back-end solar cell processing systems to allow the production of more efficient solar cells. The increases efficiency can be as much as .5% and are achieved by “enabling the fabrication of advanced contact structures,” according to this press release.
First Solar (FSLR) has added another 27MW to its existing contract with Juwi Solar for two US projects. They will supply 15MW for a project for the Jacksonville Electric Authority and another 12MW for American Electric Power in Ohio. Construction on these projects is expected to begin later this year and be completed by the end of 2010

JA Solar just announced that it is working with Innovalight, Inc. to develop new, next-generation solar products that use silicon ink technology to achieve better performance and conversion efficiency. Innovalight, the originators of the technology, recently achieved a record of 18 percent conversion efficiency in tests with these products. JA Solar plans to introduce solar panels using this technology to the commercial market by 2010.
Canadian Solar and Energy Research Center of the Netherlands just announced a new technology agreement today that gives Canadian Solar access to the Energy Research Center’s metal wrap-through (“MWT”) cells. Evergreen Solar just announced that it has launched a new line of solar panels aimed at customers who want to go off the grid. The ES-C Series consists of a line of 80, 120 and 125 MW solar panels are designed to provide a higher voltage to allow for direct 12, 24 or 48V battery charging.
