IBM (IBM) Hired To Create Malta’s Smart Grid System

IBM has been hired by 2 Maltese companies, Enemalta Corporation and Water Services Corporation, to design and install a smart grid for the entire nation. Badger Meter (BMI) A "Bellwether Of Growth In the Water Industry"

Badger Meter (BMI), which the CEO calls a “bellwether of national trends to measure and conserve water” reported earnings results last night and have the results to back it up.  The company reported and EPS of .42/share which represents a 50% bump over the year ago quarter and smashed estimates of .26/share.  Revenues came in at $67.6 million, beating estimates of $60 million which is an 18% increase over the year ago quarter..  Not exactly … Read the rest

Itron (ITRI) & Digi International (DGII) to Develop Smart Grid Apps

Earlier today, Itron (ITRI) announced a partnership with Tendril in an attempt to rule the smart grid world.  Now the company is announcing a collaboration with Digi International (DGII) to enable utilities to remotely monitor and control automation devices utilizing Itron’s OpenWay advanced metering infrastructure network in conjunction with Digi’s ConnectPort gateway.

Industrial Defender To Partner With Itron (ITRI)

Industrial Defender and Itron are working together to offer Security Event Management for Itron’s OpenWay smart meter system. Industrial Defender’s security technology will be used to manage the data from Itron’s meters, allowing Itron to provide enhanced security to electricity providers using their system.

Itron (ITRI) To Sell Nighthawk (NIHK) Wireless Power Control Products

Itron (ITRI) and Nighthawk (OTCBB:NIHK) have announced a partnership that allows ITRI to promote, market and sell Nighthawk wireless power control products to its utility customers.  Nighthawk’s products will complement ITRI’s automated meter reading product, ChoiceConnect which provides utilities with the ability to connect, disconnect or reduce power to customers based on meter readings remotely.

Badger Meters (BMI) Reports Increased Profits But Still Performs Below Expectations

Badger Meters reported that its third-quarter income rose by 1.3 percent yesterday, as noted by the Business Journal. According to Badger Meter chairman, president and CEO Richard Meeusen, the disappointing result was caused by increased demands for Badger’s utility products and commercial water meters being balanced out by a slowing of demand for its industrial products.

Bail-out Bill Includes New Tax Breaks For Utilities Installing Smart Meters

In addition to the investment tax credits for alternative energy, the bailout bill also included new tax breaks for utilities installing smart meters. "Smart meters," which allow utility companies to more effectively price power according to demand and thus encourage more efficient use of power by consumer, cost $120-$200 each, and that cost has been an obstacle to large utilities who want to implement them over their customer base.

Idaho Power (IDA) Signs Deal To Buy Smart Meters For Residential Customers

IDACORP’s public utility Idaho Power just announced that is has signed a $10 million deal with Landis+Gyer to purchase 450,000 of their residential smart meters.
