Last month Sunpower (SPWRA) announced a deal with Iberdrola Renewables to design and build a 30MW solar plant and this morning comes news of a 20MW solar plant for Iberdrola in Arizona. Sunpower will use its Oasis Power Plant product which integrates its E19 panels with tracking technology and all the cabling. It’s designed to deploy quickly. Iberdrola will own and operate Copper Crossing.
SunPower (SPWRA) signed a contract to work with E.ON Climate and Renewables Italia Solar to design and build a 3.4MW solar power plant in Italy’s Lazio region using ground mounted systems with tracking technology. Construction on the plant will start this year and is expected to be completed in April 2011.
SunPower (SPWRA) announced yesterday that it’s building solar power systems at two California water plants in San Diego – the Fallbrook Public Utilities District and the San Juan Water District. The ground mounted solar systems using tracking technology are expected to be fully operational within a few months.

Sunpower (SPWRA) has announced earnings results after the bell today that doubled the analyst estimates on the EPS side at .26/share on revenues of $550 million vs the analyst estimate for $471 million. While that’s a big bump over the average estimate it’s not impressive when compared to the year ago quarter when the company reported .46 EPS. SunPower just announced that they will be partnering with Colorado Springs Utilities to build a 6MW solar power plant at the U.S. Air Force Academy. It should be up and running by 2011, and will remove approximately 9,400 tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year.
SunPower (SPWRA) and Iberdrola Renewables have announced plans to partner on a 30MW solar plant on 216 acres of private land in Colorado which is expected to come online by the end of next year. The plant will be owned and operated by Iberdrola and use Sunpower’s E19 solar panels mounted to the Suntracker systems to maximize efficiency. The electricity generated will be sold under a long term contract to Xcel Energy (XEL).
Yesterday, Deutsche Bank posted some positive comments on the China solar stocks, upgrading Suntech (STP) to Buy and reiterating buys on TSL, SOL and YGE. This morning they are weighing in on two of the big US solar plays MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) and Sunpower (SPWRA) and aren’t as bullish. Canaccord Genuity is out with a few ratings changes in the solar space.
The firm has upgraded JA Solar (JASO) from Hold to Buy and raised the price target nearly 50% to $11. Shares are falling another 3% today despite the upgrade indicating the stock is a bit tired following a torrid run.
JMP Securities is bullish on a few green stocks due to an expected increase in electricity demand which the firm sees sparking increased efforts to develop alternative energy solutions. They see good value in demand response players EnerNOC (ENOC) and Comverge (COMV) as well as US solar company Sunpower (SPWRA) and have an Outperform rating on all three.
