A-Power Energy (APWR) Moving On Contracts Of $75 Million

A-Power Energy (APWR) has vaulted about 15% in just the past 20 minutes on news it has signed contracts totaling $75 million with subsidiaries of Anhui Wenergy to build micro grid electricity generation systems using biomass as the fuel.  APWR will design, assemble, install, test and deliver two 30 MW biomass fueled electricity generation systems which are expected to be completed by Aug 2010.

Green Energy Highlights of Johnson Controls (JCI) Earnings

Johnson Controls (JCI), a conglomerate involved in lithium battery production and building efficiency reported mixed earnings this morning posting an EPS 1 cent better than expectations at a loss of .16 share (it’s the 2nd straight quarter of losses) on revenues of 6.3 billion vs the consensus of 6.93 billion.

Miami To Get Smart Grid As GE (GE), Florida Power and Light (FPL), Cisco (CSCO) And Silver Springs Team Up

General Electric, Florida Power and Light, Cisco Systems and Silver Springs Networks just announced that the four companies will team up to build a smart grid to serve the city of Miami. The new program, which will be called Energy Smart Miami, involves installing smart meters in more than 1 million Miami homes and businesses, as well as constructing an automated smart grid to support the smart meters. MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) And Conergy At Impasse Over Supply Contract

MEMC Electronic Materials and Conergy, the German solar company that is MEMC’s second-largest customer, appear to have reached an impasse as they attempt to renegotiate a supply contract. Conergy has been attempting to renegotiate the contract due to the economic crisis and the way silicon prices have dropped over the past year.

Raser Technologies (RZ) Obtains $7 Million Refund From UTC

Raser Technologies just announced that it has restructured a purchase agreement with United Technologies Corp., resulting in a $7 million refund from UTC to Raser. The $7 million came from a deposit made for an order of United Technologies’ PureCycle(R) power systems. Applied Materials’ (AMAT) Tandem Junction SunFab Line Certified By Sunfilm

Applied Materials just announced that the  Tandem junction SunFab Thin Film production line installed in Sunfilm’s Grossroehrsdorf factory has been certified and has achieved factory acceptance. The production line, the first of its type in the world, passed certification tests to produce solar modules at up to 8% efficiency. Navistar (NAV) Gets $10 Million DOE Grant For Hybrid Electric School Bus

As part of the Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle Technology Acceleration and Deployment Activity Program, the US Dept of Energy announced it has selected Navistar’s Fort Wayne plant for a cost shared award of up to $10 million to develop 60 plug-in electric hybrid buses for use across the nation during a multi year test program.  Navistar’s IC Bus is the only bus manufacturer currently offering the electric bus and will use the grant to improve … Read the rest

Johnson Controls-Saft (JCI) To Build New Lithium-Ion Battery Plant

Johnson Controls, as part of its joint venture with Saft SA, just announced that it will build a lithium-ion battery plant in Holland, Michigan. The plant will built in an existing Johnson Controls Facility there and will provide jobs to 500 employees. Refurbishing the existing plant to handle manufacturing lithium-ion batteries is expected to cost about $220 million.
