Think City just announced that it has received a $5.69 million bridge loan from investors, saving it (at least for now) from bankruptcy. Not surprisingly, the majority of the money is coming from Ener1.
Ener1 has a $70 million battery supply contract with the troubled electric car company. Will the financing help? Reuters quotes a written statement from Think:

Officials with the Department of the Interior are requesting that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission postpone approval of AES’ proposed LNG plant in Chesapeake Bay. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission was expected to give AES permission to proceed with the plant, but the DOI wants to wait until an additional wildlife study is finished and analyzed.

A-Power announced yesterday that it has signed a deal for a joint venture with GE Drivetrain Technologies.Under the terms of the agreement, the companies will work together to create a wind turbine gearbox assembly business. GE Drivetrain will own the majority of the business.
The companies also entered into a supply agreement, under which GE will provide more than 900 2.7 MW gearboxes to A-Power, starting in 2010.
Suntech and Open Energy now have an exclusive partnership to license Open Energy’s building integrated solar roof membrane product. Suntech will manufacture, distribute and market the new product, a flat roof membrane that will be called SolarEze. The product is easy to install and durable, able to withstand extreme weather conditions.

Pacific Ethanol announced on Friday that it will be suspending ethanol production at its Madera plant starting tomorrow, January 12th. The plant can produce up to 40 million gallons of ethanol per year, but there is no word on when production will resume.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, Pacific Ethanol "said in a news release that “extended unfavorable market conditions for producing ethanol” prompted the suspension.… Read the rest
The New York Times reports that General Motors (GM) will make lithium batteries for its much-anticipated Chevy Volt in Michigan, instead of making the batteries overseas. If the new plant goes forward as planned, GM will be the first automaker to produce these batteries inside the US. AES Solar Energy Ltd announced that it has secured funding for 5 of its planned solar PV projects in Spain. According to the company, which is a joint venture between AES Corporation and Riverstone Holdings LLC, one of its subsidiaries obtained €70 million loan for the projects.
Just a heads up…FPL Group Inc is changing the name of its alternative energy subsidiary, FPL Energy. FPL Energy will henceforth be known as NextEra Energy Resources.
