Solar shares will have a tough time getting going today after the world’s largest solar cell manufacturer issued a profit warning. It appears Germany’s Q-Cells has changed its mind. Less than two weeks ago, a spokesman for the company said they had no plans to issue a profit warning, saying, “If Q-Cell were planning to send out a profit warning, I would have heard about it.” What a difference 10 days makes.

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) announced this afternoon that the first stage of construction is nearly complete for one of Germany’s largest solar installations. The roof of a tunnel on Germany’s A3 highway will be outfitted with 16000 Evergreen Solar panels on 2.7 km and generate 2.8MW of energy which is enough to power around 600 homes annually.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) is announcing this morning that it will supply Goldbeck Solar of Germany with 15MW of solar modules to be used in industrial buildings in 2009 with the option of an additional 58MW to be purchased by Goldbeck. Goldbeck specializes in turnkey industrial PV rooftop and ground mounted systems.

According to StreetInsider.com, Piper Jaffray is out cutting estimates on the solar sector due to poor visibility.
