GE Wind Energy Biz Down 8%, Announcing Big China Smart Grid Order Next Week

Demand Response Player Comverge (COMV) Reports More Losses In 08, But Future Bright

Comverge (COMV), a demand response provider, released mixed results after the bell today.  On the EPS side they reported .28/share (beating estimates by .04) and revenues of $33 million was right in line with expectations.  With a revenue growth decrease of 22% over the year ago quarter, that stops a streak of 4 consecutive quarters of accelerating revenue growth.  The future looks bright for COMV but this is a company that appears to be … Read the rest

Google’s (GOOG) Energy Efficiency Strategy

There’s a good piece over at Portfolio.com about Google’s green energy initiatives and collaboration with GE.  Google’s goal is to make every home energy efficient so that appliances know when to power up and down while heating and cooling respond automatically to the prices in energy.  Before that can happen big time upgrades must happen in the transmission lines which are horribly outdated and inefficient.

IBM (IBM) Hired To Create Malta’s Smart Grid System

IBM has been hired by 2 Maltese companies, Enemalta Corporation and Water Services Corporation, to design and install a smart grid for the entire nation. Echelon (ELON) Continues to Report Losses On Shrinking Revenue

Echelon (ELON) may be a company to watch in the future with exposure in LED lighting, demand response and smart grid networking but for now the company remains unprofitable with no signs of a turn around yet.  The company posted a non GAAP loss of .06/share which beat estimates of -.14/share but revenues shrunk by about 25% over the year ago quarter.

Itron (ITRI) & Digi International (DGII) to Develop Smart Grid Apps

Earlier today, Itron (ITRI) announced a partnership with Tendril in an attempt to rule the smart grid world.  Now the company is announcing a collaboration with Digi International (DGII) to enable utilities to remotely monitor and control automation devices utilizing Itron’s OpenWay advanced metering infrastructure network in conjunction with Digi’s ConnectPort gateway.
