Evergreen Solar just announced that a new 5MW Italian solar plant is online using Evergreen Solar panels, the largest Evergreen installation thus far. The plant uses 24,600 Evergreen Solar ES-A series String Ribbon solar panels to produce sufficient electricity for about 2,400 homes.

SunPower just announced that it will work in partnership with K6 S.a.S to build 2 1-megawatt PV solar plants in Puglia, Italy. The solar plants are expected to be up and running by August 2010. Sunpower will install its solar panels as well as its SunPower® T20 Tracker, which follows the sun to increase energy production by 30% energy.

PlanetSolar just revealed the world’s largest solar-powered boat to the world at the HDW shipyard. The catamaran is powered by 38,000 next-generation solar cells from SunPower. PlanetSolar will start testing the boat in March, and next year it will go on a world tour.

Canadian Solar just announced that it has successfully installed the first 250 kW photovoltaic (PV) rooftop system in Ontario. According to the Boston Business Journal, Evergreen Solar just announced that its German joint venture with Q Cell, Sovello, may be forced to declare insolvency after a European commission’s decision to revoke a $16.2 million grant the company was given in 2008.
