First Solar (FSLR) has added another 27MW to its existing contract with Juwi Solar for two US projects. They will supply 15MW for a project for the Jacksonville Electric Authority and another 12MW for American Electric Power in Ohio. Algae fuel enters the limelight once again. Several we weeks ago, I wrote about Exxon Mobile’s foray into the algae energy space and in the past few days, the first algae fueled car hit the road in a publicity stunt for the film FUEL. The film is a Sundance file winner for best documentary and takes a look at an alternative energy future.
A-Power Energy (APWR) is surging nearly 10% this morning on news it has received a 49.5MW “full responsibility” contract valued at over $90 million to build a wind farm in Inner Mongolia called the Saiwusu Wind Farm. APWR will handle just about everything including supplying the turbines, towers and foundations, construction and installation. JA Solar just announced that it is working with Innovalight, Inc. to develop new, next-generation solar products that use silicon ink technology to achieve better performance and conversion efficiency. Innovalight, the originators of the technology, recently achieved a record of 18 percent conversion efficiency in tests with these products. JA Solar plans to introduce solar panels using this technology to the commercial market by 2010.
Canadian Solar and Energy Research Center of the Netherlands just announced a new technology agreement today that gives Canadian Solar access to the Energy Research Center’s metal wrap-through (“MWT”) cells. Under the joint technology development and transfer agreement, Canadian Solar will be able to apply this technology to its production lines.

Darling International just announced that it is partnering with Valero Energy to form a joint venture that will manufacture renewable diesel fuel. The plant that the two companies plan to build together, which will be located near Norco, Louisiana, will be able to produce 10,0000 barrels a day or 135 million gallons per year.
