Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Gets Piper Jaffray Downgrade, Slashes Price Target

Not all is rosy in solar land this morning.  Piper Jaffray is downgrading Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) from Neutral to Underweight and is slashing the price target from $21 to $9.

Ormat (ORA) Beats Estimates, Guides Inline

Ormat (ORA), the geothermal gorilla, continues to post very strong quarters despite a tough economy.  The company beat both EPS and revenues estimates with about 20% quarter over quarter growth on both.  EPS came in at .35/share vs the estimate of .28/share on revenues of $100 million vs the estimate of $92.5 million.  115% revenue growth in the Product Segment drove the quarter’s positive results while the Electricity Segment saw a small decline in revenue … Read the rest

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Smashes EPS Estimate, Soaring 25%

About three weeks ago, I passed along a post to you from NotableCalls.com which highlighted the Oppenheimer call for a strong 3rd quarter.  Oppenheimer was giving the green light on CSIQ saying to expect a big 3rd quarter.  But first things first!  How about that 2nd quarter!

Real Goods Solar (RSOL) Reports Earnings, Announces Large Navy Order, Up Over 10% AH

Real Goods (RSOL) is surging over 10% in after hours trading after the company announced earnings as well as a large order from Northrop Grumman to install three solar systems on two Navy bases beginning at the end of the year.

The company reported another losing quarter but saw a 44% bump in revenues (mostly due to acquisitions) over the year ago quarter and beat expectations.  EPS came in at negative .03/share which compares to … Read the rest

The government has dished out the funds for advanced battery research and development and the winners are….

Johnson Controls (JCI) – $300 million
A123 Systems – $249 million
General Motors (GM) – $240 million
EnerDel (HEV) – $118.5 million
Ford (F) – 92.7 million
Chrysler – $70 million
UQM Technologies (UQM) – $45 million
Exide (XIDE) – $34 million

Suntech (STP) Signs Contract With Recurrent Energy

Suntech just announced that they have signed a supply contract with Recurrent Energy. Under the contract, Suntech will supply Recurrent with more than 25,000 modules. Recurrent will use these to construct a 5 MW solar installation on top of San Franscisco’s Sunset Reservoir. Consolidated Edison (ED) Rolls Out Smart Grid Test

New York’s Consolidated Edison just announced that it is planning a smart grid test program in Northwest Queens. Approximately 1,500 customers will receive smart meters as part of the demonstration. Consolidated Edison will also work with City University of New York to study how to best distribute solar energy from rooftop installations to the power grid. Government Set To Award Advanced Battery Stimulus Funds: Watch Ener1 (HEV)
