BP (BP) & Verenium (VRNM) Cellulosic Ethanol Venture To Be Named Vercipia Biofuels

The joint venture between BP and Verenium (VRNM) to develop commercial scale cellulosic ethanol will be named Vercipia Biofuels and headquarters will be located to Highlands County, Florida the companies have announced.  A second site is being developed in the Gulf Coast region.

Itron (ITRI) To Deploy Water & Electrical Smart Meters For Glendale Water & Power

Along with its earnings report today which beat expectations, Itron (ITRI) has announced a contract with California’s Glendale Water & Power to provide them with smart metering technology for both its water and electricity operations.  No word on the financials but Glendale serves 120K customers.  Itron’s OpenWay advanced metering system provides a two way communication between the meter and the utility, providing for data collection, use limitations, outage detection, remote metering and home networking … Read the rest

American Superconductor (AMSC) Amends Sinovel Contract To Meet Increasing China Wind Energy Demand

American Superconductor (AMSC) announced this evening that they are increasing their shipments to China’s largest wind turbine manufacturer Sinovel in order to meet increased demand.  The amended contract will increase the number of AMSC’s PowerModule PM3000MW power converters which allows Sinovel to include grid friendly features with its wind turbines, such as controlling power flows, regulating voltage, monitoring system performance and maximizing efficiency.  The overall contract value increases by $20 million for AMSC.

Itron (ITRI) Beats Lowered Expectations, Up AH

As I mentioned on Twitter today, I decided to take a shot at an Itron (ITRI) entry ahead of earnings after the bell today.  Why? Borg Warner (BWA) Misses Badly With Another Quarterly Loss, Shares Plunging

Borg Warner (BWA) is selling off with heavy volume after the company reported earnings that missed analyst estimates by a wide margin.  The company reported a non GAAP loss of .05/share vs the expectations for a .07/share profit.  Sales also came in much lighter than expected at $916 million vs expectations of $970 million.

Trex (TWP) Blows It Out On EPS, But Issues Soft Guidance

Trex (TWP) reported a strong quarter, posting an EPS of .49 vs the analyst estimate of .20, good for an 81% bump over the year ago quarter.  Revenues came in about 8% higher than expectations at 91.5 million but were off a bit from the year ago quarter.  As we’ve seen with so many companies this quarter, they’re beating handily on the EPS side through cost cutting but the revenue growth is still quite soft. … Read the rest

Capstone Turbine (CPST) Nets New Distributor For Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri

Capstone Turbine announced on Monday that has added a new distributor for its products in Kansas, Arkansas and Missouri: Interstate Power Solutions, a company that has been supplying electrical systems to Midwestern companies for over 25 years.

Rubicon Technology (RBCN) Beats Expectations, But Still Seeing Red

Rubicon Technology (RBCN), which makes components for LED’s, swung to a loss in the 2nd quarter vs a profit in the year ago quarter of .12/share.  While the company did beat expectations for revenue and EPS by reporting an EPS loss of .15 and revenues of $3.2 million, this is a company that continues to struggle after showing some promise last year.  You certainly wouldn’t know it by its stock price!  I suppose on the … Read the rest

Solarfun (SOLF) In Supply Agreement With Nobility Solar Projects

Solarfun just announced a supply agreement with Nobility Solar Projects. Under the agreement, Solarfun will supply Nobility with 14.2MW of PV modules, with the transaction to take place in the latter part of this year.
