Tesla’s (TSLA) Wild Friday ..Overblown?

I was away from the market Friday and getting caught up with all the latest today.  Looks like I missed quite a day for Tesla on Friday with the stock plummeting 20% on news two key engineers working on the Model S left the company.

It appears based on today’s quick recovery that fears of internal turmoil may be overblown.  The Fool has a great run down on the events, I’ll summarize here.

Cree Inc (CREE) Misses, Issues Weak Guidance, Shares Down AH

The LED leader Cree Inc (CREE) continues to have a bit of a tough go in earnings season, missing analyst estimates and issuing weak guidance once again.  The company reported a non GAAP EPS of .25/share on revenues of $304 million.  It wasn’t an awful quarter with the company missing estimates by a small margin and posting quarter over quarter growth of 18%, but traders don’t like the guidance sending shares down nearly 5% in … Read the rest

SemiLEDS (LEDS) Misses Estimates: “LED Industry Remains Challenging”

I’ve been fairly vocal about the bottoming out of solar stocks.. not as much for the LED sector.  I think it’s getting close to confirming a bottom.  The technical action in SemiLEDS (LEDS), a China LED play, has improved significantly in recent months following the news that China is banning incandescent bulbs.

However, this is a company that continues to remain in the red and that didn’t change with yesterday’s earnings report in which … Read the rest

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Powers Solar Powered Kindle

A rising tide lifts all boats, even the SS Energy Conversion Devices (ENER).  This is a thin film solar company with oodles of promise.. a few years ago.  The company has been bleeding red ink for some time and has traded below a buck for many months.  It’s now a lotto ticket play, albeit with much better odds.

The stock got a big boost yesterday along with the entire solar sector on the report out … Read the rest

Solar Stocks Bottom Is In: Yesterday A Definitive Move, But Be Patient

If you’ve been a reader of Green Stocks Central, then you know I’ve been increasingly bullish on solar in recent months calling Yingli Green Energy (YGE) a top play and initiating a position in Suntech Power (STP) in late October.  STP didn’t hold the bullish wedge formation and fell back into the base, but I’ve been patient scaling in slowly.  That position is now paying off  with yesterday’s move and it’s not too late to … Read the rest
