A-Power Energy (APWR) is tacking on to yesterday’s gains this morning after it was announced that the company has received a $52 million contract from Huaian Huapeng Biomass Electricity to design, construct and test two 18MW biomass energy facilities in China. The project is expected to be completed and in operation by the end of next year.
Gushan Environmental (GU), a leading China biodiesel producer announced mixed earnings results this morning, matching EPS estimates of .01/share which is a big drop from the .20/share it reported one year ago. Revenues came in about 10% lower than expectations at $40 million, nearly a 20% drop from the year ago period.

Green Plains Renewable Energy just scored a $2.1 million grant from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence for a pilot project that aims to use ethanol plant by-products to grow algae. The project would use heat, carbon dioxide and wastewater to grow algae, which could then be added to animal feed or used to produce more biofuels.
Environmental Power Corporation (EPG) announced yesterday that it has received new investment from technology provider Xergi A/S, as well as a new cooperation agreement between the two companies.
Xergia has agreed to purchase $3 million worth of EPG’s 14% convertible notes. Next month, Xergi’s $3 million payment obligation for the notes will cancel out Environmental Power Corporation’s $3 million payment for technology rights.
A-Power Energy (APWR) has vaulted about 15% in just the past 20 minutes on news it has signed contracts totaling $75 million with subsidiaries of Anhui Wenergy to build micro grid electricity generation systems using biomass as the fuel. Earth2Tech.com has started a deathwatch for Pacific Ethanol (PEIX) and Nova Biosource Fuels. Pacific Ethanol could be out of cash be the end of the month, and the company may go bankrupt. This shouldn’t be a huge surprise to anyone, as the price of ethanol has plummeted and people have become aware of how inefficient it is to produce ethanol from corn.

Nova Biosource Fuels has received a notice from NYSE AMEX LLC regarding a late Form 10-Q. Nova has not filed its Form 10-Q for January 31, 2009, and its listing on the stock exchange is threatened unless it submits a plan to get back into compliance.

An EU trade committee has approved temporary anti-dumping and anti-subsidy tariffs on imports of US biodiesel. This will affect Us biofuels companies like agricultural giant Archer Daniels Midland.
