QTWW Update: Moving On Half Billion Govt Loan To Fisker Automotive

The news is in on Quantum which will produce the propulsion systems for Fisker Automotive.  The US government and Fisker Auto have agreed to terms on a loan of more than half a billion bucks to create fuel efficient hybrid and electric cars. A majority of the low-interest funds goes to Project NINA, which will oversee the design, engineering and assembly of Fisker cars with the remainder being used to finalize development of the Karma.  … Read the rest

I don’t see any news on QTWW as of yet, but it’s moving big here, taking out the dollar level and the Aug highs.  It’s overextended intraday, but this move is extremely bullish.

Advanced Battery Technologies (ABAT) Wuxi Autocycle Gets $3.4 Million Electric Scooter/Bike Order

Advanced Battery (ABAT)’s subsidiary Wuxi ZhongQiang (Autcycle) has signed two contracts this morning totaling $3.3 million for customers in Denmark and Indonesia.   One order is for 12,000 electric bikes with a contract value of $2.3 million and the 2nd order is for 2000 electric scooters with a total value of $1.1 million.  Deliver of the order is expected within the month.

Ener1 (HEV) And Volvo Team Up For Volvo C30 Battery Electric Vehicle

The new Volvo C30 Electric Vehicle, the love child of Volvo and Ener1’s subsidiary EnerDel, will be making its debut in Gothenburg, Sweden today. The C30 is a zero emission electric car bmeant for city commuters. It has a 95 mile range between charges, so it can meet the needs of more than 90 percent of European commuters. The lithium-ion battery is made in the USA by Enerdel.

The Algaeus: 150MPG Algae Fueled Toyota (TM) Prius Makes Debut

Algae fuel enters the limelight once again.  Several we weeks ago, I wrote about Exxon Mobile’s foray into the algae energy space and in the past few days, the first algae fueled car hit the road in a publicity stunt for the film FUEL.  The film is a Sundance file winner for best documentary and takes a look at an alternative energy future.

A123 (AONE) IPO Charges Ahead

Aerovironment (AVAV) Back Below Key Support Following Downgrade

Yesterday, Aerovironment (AVAV) fell back below key support of the 50 and 200 day moving averages after Janney Montgomery downgraded the stock from Buy to Neutral.

UQM Technologies (UQM) Receives $45.1 Million From Department Of Energy

UQM Technologies just announced that it has been awarded $45.1 million as a grant from the Department of Energy.  The grant, awarded via the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is for the development and deployment of electric vehicles and includes a 50% cost-share by the company, so the total project is valued at $90.2 million. … Read the rest

Aerovironment (AVAV) Awarded Patent For Smart Grid Battery Technology

Aerovironment just announced that it has been awarded a patent for technology that manages charging, control and maintenance of batteries for battery packs, chargers and electric vehicles that can be connected to and controlled by a smart grid. The technology allows the rate of charge to be analyzed and optimized for the best possible performance. Although it was developed for Aerovironment’s commercial PosiNET™ system, it could eventually be used by private consumers as well.

BorgWarner (BWA) And UQM (UQM) To Collaborate

BorgWarner and UQM just announced that they will combine their powers to develop electric powertrain products for HEVs and EVs. They intend to start out their partnership by working on a mashup of  UQM Technologies’ PowerPhase® electric propulsion system and BorgWarner’s 31-03 eGearDrive™ transmission for the Coda electric car.  The Coda is expected to be out in California next year.
