American Superconductor (AMSC) Beats, Narrows Guidance

American Superconductor (AMSC) is up just a bit this morning after reporting a smaller loss than expected.  The company reported a loss of .18/share (matches the year ago quarter) in the quarter vs estimates of a .20/share loss on revenues that were slightly higher than expected at 41.3 million (a 27% increase over the year ago quarters).  Not exactly a great quarter but not awful either.

Vestas (VWSYF) Receives Italian Turbine Order

Vestas Wind Systems has received a wind turbine order from Parco Eolico Ordona, an Italian subsidiary of Inergia. Under the terms of the agreement, Vestas will deliver and install 13 units of its V90 2MW wind turbine and its VestasOnline Business supervisory control and data acquisition system. Vestas will also provide a 5-year service and availability agreement on the turbines.

Court Rules In Zoltek’s (ZOLT) Favor In Carbon Fiber Patent Litigation

Zoltek Corporation just announced that the U. S. Court of Federal Claims has ruled in their favor in their carbon fiber patent litigation against Lockheed Martin, and will allow the company to pursue its patent claims against Lockheed Martin in Atlanta’s Federal District Court.

FPL Group (FPL) Tops Estimates With Strong Quarter, Fueled By NextEra Energy

FPL Group (FPL), called the Wal Mart of Wind by Barron’s and the largest producer of wind and solar energy in the US, reported earnings this morning that topped analyst estimates at .90/share and represents 25% growth over the year ago quarter on revenue growth of 9%.  All in all, a very good quarter in a tough environment. Vestas Wind Systems (VWSYF) Invests In Chinese Subsidiary

Vestas Wind Systems has announced it will invest $350 million in its Tianjin, China subsidiary.  This investment will position the company to meet China’s increasing hunger for wind energy.  Vestas has received several large orders from China in the past month and in the past year. As CleanTech Group LLC notes, investing in its Chinese subsidiary is smart because China is such an important and growing market for wind power:

American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC) Receives Multi-Million Dollar Order From China’s CSR-ZELRI

American Superconductor Corporation just announced that is received a large order from China’s CSR Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Research Institute Co., Ltd. The multi-million dollar order is for 100 sets of AMSC’s wind turbine core electrical components such as the PowerModule(TM) PM3000W. The components, which should be shipped out by the end of this year, will be used in 1.65 MW wind turbines designed by AMS  Windtec.

Xcel (XEL) Selects NextEra Energy Resources (FPL) For Wind Farm

Xcel Energy has chosen NextEra Energy Resources to build its planned Northern Colorado Wind Facility. If the 152 MW project is approved by Colorado regulators, it’s scheduled to be producing power by the end of this year.

American Superconductor (AMSC) Releases Preliminary Results, Expects Larger Losses

American Superconductor (AMSC) is releasing preliminary earnings results this evening and they aren’t pretty.  The company’s revenue estimates are about in line with analyst estimates at around 41 million, but the company is expecting larger losses for the quarter due to estimated cost overruns on its turnkey SVC projects, higher Windtec engineering costs, charges for excess inventory and unfavorable exchange rates.  Excuses, excuses, excuses.  Yep, it was a poorly executed quarter all the way around … Read the rest
