Xcel Energy has chosen NextEra Energy Resources to build its planned Northern Colorado Wind Facility. If the 152 MW project is approved by Colorado regulators, it’s scheduled to be producing power by the end of this year.

FPL Energy Services, a subsidiary of FPL Energy Group, announced yesterday that it just won a $5 billion contract with the federal government. FPL Energy Services will help the government meet goals related to conserving water, reducing energy use, and switching to renewable energy.

Just a heads up…FPL Group Inc is changing the name of its alternative energy subsidiary, FPL Energy. FPL Energy will henceforth be known as NextEra Energy Resources.

Florida Power and Light Company, part of FPL Group, Inc, began construction of a 75 MW solar-thermal plant in Martin County, Florida. The plant, which will be constructed from 180,000 mirrors, is an addition to an existing natural gas/oil-powered power station. Florida Power and Light Company announced it will cancel a 35,000 acre, 210 MW wind power project in Wilbarger County, TX, near Wichita Falls. The project was canceled due to the issues the country has been facing in financial markets as of late, as well as area limitations on the ability to transmit power once it’s generated.
