UQM Tech (UQM) Gets $45 Million Grant From DOE For Electric Vehicles

Cree Inc (CREE) Impresses Again, Shares Surge Back To Resistance At 60

Another very impressive quarter for Cree Inc (CREE) and traders are responding after hours by sending the stock up nearly 10% back to the big resistance area around 60.  It will be interesting to see if it can take out that level and find a new level of support.  I’m skeptical and if I were holding this stock into earnings, I’d be taking some profits off the table into the gap up tomorrow.

Quantum Fuel (QTWW) Selected As Qualified Solar Supplier By City Of LA

Xcel Energy (XEL) Completes BRIGO Transmission Projects

Xcel Energy just announced the completion of their Buffalo Ridge Incremental Generation Outlet (BRIGO) Transmission Projects, which will increase the company’s ability to distribute wind energy to customers in Minnesota and South Dakota.

EnerDel (HEV) And ITOCHU Collaborate On Another Smart Grid Battery Storage Project

EnerDel just announced that it will be collaborating with ITOCHU Corporation on another smart grid battery storage project, this time for a major Tokyo apartment building. The system will link renewable, high speed charging outlets for electric cars with the power grid, and is the second such project the two companies have undertaken together.

Cree Inc (CREE) & JA Solar (JASO) Get Downgrades

Cree Inc (CREE) is being hit with another downgrade this morning, this time from Brigantine Advisors (first I’ve heard of them) to a Sell rating due to valuation concerns.  Hat tip to StreetInsider.com for the following analyst comment:

GE Energy (GE) Gets Wind Turbine Supply Contract With HECIC New Energy Co., Ltd

China’s HECIC New Energy Co., Ltd has selected GE Energy to supply wind turbines for 3 wind projects three new projects in Hebei and Shanxi Provinces. Under the agreement, GE will supply 88 1.5-megawatt wind turbines to HECIC New Energy. To make the turbines easier to connect to the grid and to improve reliability and stability, they will include GE’s Low Voltage Ride-Through and Wind Farm Management Systems technology.

Broadwind Energy (BWEN) Feeling The Canceled Pickens Wind Turbine Order

There’s a good piece from Eric Savitz over at Barron’s discussing the loss of business Broadwind Energy (BWEN) faces following the cancellation by Boone Pickens of half of that large, $2 billion wind turbine order from GE.  Broadwind supplies parts to GE for these turbines and the stock is getting hit as a result.  The selling picked up yesterday and continues today with record sell volume.  A return to the November lows appears inevitable.

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Will Build Manufacturing Facility In France

Energy Conversion Devices just announced that it will build a 30MW solar laminate manufacturing facility in France. The company has not settled on a site yet, but is considering locating the facility in Alsace.

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) To Establish China’s State Key Laboratory of PV Technology At Its Manufacturing Base

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) just announced that the Chinese government has approved the company’s application to use their manufacturing base in Baoding, China as the site of the country’s first State Key Laboratory of PV Technology. The purpose of the laboratory will be to foster the development of world class solar PV development in China, and Yingli will have dibs on commercialization rights to technologies developed there.
