Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Smashes Lowball Estimates, Surges AH

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Hit On Plant Shutdowns

Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) is down more than 15% this morning on news that its Uni-Solar subsidiary has been forced to temporarily shutdown its operations in Auburn Hills and Greenville in addition to delaying the planned ramp at its second facility in Greenville.  The company cited economic conditions and weak demand for the shut downs which are expected to last a month.  Where’s that stimulus money?  The auto makers and banks don’t seem to have … Read the rest

Electric Bus Developed by UQM Technologies(UQM) and Proterra Beats Competitors In MPGe Tests

The 35-foot Proterra electric bus, which is powered by a PowerPhase® 150 electric propulsion system from UQM Technologies, was able to reach over 20 MPGe in fuel economy equivalency testing. The testing, which was conducted by Pennsylvania State University, simulated three different travel situations: central business district, arterial and commuter.

In the tests, Proterra’s electric bus scored as follows:

Central business district: 21.35 mpg

Arterial: 17.55 mpg

Commuter: 29.23 mpg

First Solar (FSLR) To Collaborate With National Bank of AZ And Solar City On Phoenix Installation

First Solar just announced that will collaborate with National Bank of Arizona and SolarCity to build a 22 KW commercial solar installation in Phoenix, Arizona. The installation will be the second-largest in Phoenix and the first to use First Solar’s products. The installation will power National Bank of Arizona headquarters, placing 2,960 First Solar advanced thin-film modules on top if the carports that line the bank’s parking lot.

Real Goods Solar (RSOL): Misses With Mounting Losses

While the solar installers Akeena Solar (AKNS) & Real Goods Solar (RSOL) have perked up a bit technically, fundamentally  both remain in dire straits.  Akeena Solar (AKNS) reported their miserable quarter several days ago and after the bell today it was Real Goods turn.  It wasn’t pretty but RSOL is closer to profitability than AKNS.

Smart Grid Players EnerNoc (ENOC) & Echelon (ELON) Report Earnings

Several days ago Itron (ITRI), the smart grid 800lb gorilla, reported disappointing earnings.  Today, the unprofitable up and comers EnerNoc (ENOC) and Echelon (ELON) reported large losses but losses that were considerably less than the estimates.

Raser’s (RZ) New Low Temperature Geothermal Plant Online in Utah

Okay, so this isn’t quite as sexy as a 100 MPG hybrid hummer, but Raser just announced that its new Hatch Geothermal Power Plant is up and running in Utah. Normally, geothermal plants take years to start production, but Raser took only 5 months to power up this plant.
