China Ramps Up the Renewable Energy Rhetoric: 5Fold Increase in Solar By 2020

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Signs Chinese Production Contract

Evergreen Solar just signed a Chinese production contract for its String Ribbon solar wafers. Under the agreement, Evergreen Solar will work with Jiawei Solar (Wuhan) Co. and the Wuhan Donghu New Technology Development Zone Management Committee to manufacture its String Ribbon solar wafer products in Wuhan, China, starting next year. Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) Scores State Grant For Algae Pilot Project

Green Plains Renewable  Energy just scored a $2.1 million grant from the Iowa Office of Energy Independence for a pilot project that aims to use ethanol plant by-products to grow algae. The project would use heat, carbon dioxide and wastewater to grow algae, which could then be added to animal feed or used to produce more biofuels.

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Pushes Further Into Korean Market With Topinfrasolar 5MW Deal

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) announced this morning that it signed a new sales agreement with Korean systems integrator, Topinfrasolar which expands their current agreement by 5MW.  The contract calls for deliveries of both regular and e-Modules for Korean installations this year, expanding upon the initial 3MW relationship that began earlier this year.

SunPower (SPWRA) To Build 1.2 MW Solar Power System For Certified Steel In NJ

Sunpower just announced that it will work with Certified Steel and Nexus Properties to build a 1.2 MW solar PV system. The system will power Certified Steel’s plant in New Jersey. The installation will use SunPower’s monocrystalline-silicon panels and will supply almost all the energy the plant needs. The project is being financed through the Public Service Enterprise’s (PSE&G) solar loan program, according to PVTech.org.

Cree Inc (CREE) Releases Multichip MC-E LED, Demonstrates More Efficient XLamp LED

Cree, Inc just released a new multichip MC-E LED, the XLamp MC-E. This product combines red, white, green and blue LED chips in a single LED light. With their color-changing capabilities and small size, these lights are ideal for architectural and entertainment uses. As a bonus, their footprint is 80% smaller than that of the existing XLamp color LEDs.

China Seeks 100GW Wind Power Capacity By 2020

China has raised the goalposts for the percentage of its energy that comes from wind power. 18 months ago, the Chinese government set a goal of increasing the country’s wind energy capacity to 30 GW by 2020. Now, they are aiming for 100 GW of wind power by 2020. By 2050, they expect to be getting 40 percent of their power from renewable sources.
