A recent article from TheStockAdvisors.com shows the contributing editors from Stephen Leeb’s The Complete Investor focus on three Geothermal energy picks:  Chevron (CVX), Calpine (CPN), and Ormat Technologies(ORA).

IPO FILING: First Wind Holdings (WNDY)

Check out this new initial public offering from First Wind Holdings Inc.  First Wind has applied to take the ticker WNDY on the NASDAQ.   As per the company name, the company is involved in wind energy.

For filing purposes it has listed the amount of $450 Million as the amount in shares that it intends to offer.  Underwriters are listed as Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan.

LDK Solar (LDK) Gets 5 Yr Supply Deal With XL Telecom & Energy

The going is good for LDK Solar.  First the blow out earnings results yesterday, this morning a new 5 year contract to supply multicrystalline wafers to India based XL Telecom & Energy.  They will deliver about 300 MW of the silicon wafers over the 5 yr period, beginning in early 09 with XL Telecom making a down payment for a portion of the contract value.  No word on the total value of the contract.… Read the rest

Briefing.com reports that Canadian Solar reports Q2 results, beats on revs; guides Q3 revs in-line; guides FY08 revs in-line Reports Q2 earnings of $0.36 per share, includes one-time non-cash debt conversion charge of $10.2 million, may not be comparable to the First Call consensus of $0.47; revenues rose 24.2% year/year to $212.6 million vs the $206.8 million consensus. Constellation Energy (CEG) Plummets on Collateral Concerns

Constellation Energy (CEG) plummeted to a 2 year low today with record volume after it was revealed that a credit rating downgrade could force the company into posting billions of dollars in extra collateral.  High volatility in fuel and electricity prices have increased the risk of a downgrade, and the company could be forced to post over 3 billion collateral to cover those contracts if its debt is downgraded 3 levels.  It’s important to … Read the rest

Biofuel Energy (BIOF) Hit Hard on Corn, Nat Gas Hedges

According to StreetInsider.com, Biofuel Energy (BIOF) has announced that it had realized approximately 26.1 million in losses resulting from closing out various corn, ethanol and nat gas hedges and has an additional 20 million in unrealized paper losses at current prices.

JA Solar (JASO) Reports Below on EPS, Revenues & Guidance Above Estimates

JA Solar (JASO) certainly didn’t report the blow out results that LDK Solar did but nonetheless it was a decent quarter, albeit a bit below what analysts had been expecting on the EPS side.  The company reported an EPS of .14/share, about double the year ago result.  Revenues were triple from the year ago and a bit higher than what analysts had been expecting at 180.3 million.  The company issued strong guidance for 08 and … Read the rest
