Maxwell Technologies (MXWL) Reports Increasing Demand For Ultracapacitor Cells For Hybrid Buses

Yesterday morning Maxwell Technologies (MXWL) reported that sales of its ultracapacitor cell modules for hybrid buses has picked up significantly this year.  The company has shipped modules for more than 1000 buses so far this year and could ship components for 600 more by the end of the year.   The ultracapacitor energy storage systems are used in recuperative breaking systems and deliver stored energy to electric motors for acceleration.

MEMC Electronics (WFR) Signs MOU For 400MW In Solar Plants In Korea

SunEdison, a major subsidiary of MEMC Electronic Materials (WFR) has announced that is has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with a local government in southeastern Korea for the establishment of up to 400MW in solar plants on public land and rooftops.

A couple days ago, I highlighted the emergence of Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) and mentioned Valence Technology (VLNC) may be next.  Carl Berg recently purchased 7 million shares, the technicals have improved and perhaps some news was coming.  There is news this morning that could get the stock going again and above the 200 day moving average.

LED Stocks Pressured On Avian Downgrade – VECO, AIXG, CREE

According to Barrons, the top tier LED stocks which include Cree Inc (CREE), Veeco Instruments (VECO) and Aixtron (AIXG) are getting hit today after a downgrade this morning from Avian Securities.  The firm downgraded both AIXG and VECO to Neutral from Positive citing higher inventories, weaker consumer spending in China and utilization cuts at LCD makers.  These stocks are down from 6 – 9% today, VECO getting hit the hardest. Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Acquires EvoTek For $7 Million; Completes Productive Concepts Deal

Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) is on the acquisition trail this morning and has acquired privately held EvoTek LLC that provides dedicated CNG and LPG conversion systems across multiple U.S. fleet vehicle platforms.
