Auriga is out this morning initiating coverage on recent solar IPO Jinko Solar (JKS) with a Buy rating and $23 price target (more than double the current price. Despite viewing the company as a 2nd tier China solar manufacturer, the firm sees considerable value in the stock.
Clean Energy Fuels has just announced that it has been awarded a new 10-year contract from the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transit Authority. Per the terms of the contract, Clean Energy Fuels will refurbish and upgrade CNG station compressor equipment for LA Metro’s Los Angeles Central and South Bay divisions. The company will also operate and maintain the updated equipment.
The big gorilla Goldman Sachs (GS) has finally begun covering the solar sector and initiated coverage of the US solar sector with a Neutral rating and initiated coverage on a few of the largest solar companies too. Hat tip to Street Insider for the heads up on these ratings this morning.

Trina Solar (TSL) will be the supplier of solar modules for a 1.2MW solar system at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. The roof top systems will be developed by Ingenero and mounted across four buildings at the University. The local government is contributing AUD1.5 million to the project.

Sunpower (SPWRA) landed another solar supply deal with the French retailer Casino Group today. Last year, Sunpower signed a 14MW deal with the company and today it signed a 20MW deal which allows Casino group to install additional solar panels on the roof tops of its properties in France. They will use Sunpower’s E19 series solar panels which provide efficiency up to 19%.
Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) could use some good news. With its stock trading at 40 cents a share, it’s on the verge of extinction. Today it got some. The company signed a long term lithium battery supply deal with Proterra for their hybrid and electric buses, allowing the buses to recharge in 10 minutes.
Just days ago Rubicon Technology (RBCN) closed on a public offering of more than 3 million shares, raising around $62 million. In that offering, 834,000 shares were sold to the public by “selling stockholders” as indicated in the press release. We know now that those selling stockholders include the CEO and CFO according to InsiderCow.com, both of which liquidated their entire position. SunPower (SPWRA) announced it has broken the world record for full scale solar cell efficiency by producing a cell with a sunlight to electricity conversion of 24.2% at its plant in the Phillippines. It’s been confirmed by the DOE. Sunpower has increased efficiency by 4% over the past 5 years
