Tesla (TSLA) To Receive Initial $60 Million Payment From Toyota (TM) For RAV4 Development

Much has been made of the partnership between Tesla Motors (TSLA) and Toyota (TM) to develop the RAV4 all electric SUV, but little has been announced to make the partnership official.  This morning it’s official with news that the companies have signed a $60 million Phase I contract services agreement which has Tesla developing a powertrain system, including a battery, power electronics module, motor, gearbox and associated software.  The payment will be made over time … Read the rest

Toyota (TM) & Tesla (TSLA) Showcase RAV4 EV To US Dealers

rav4 ev toyota According to Bloomberg, Toyota (TM) and Tesla (TSLA) showcased their jointly developed RAV4 electric SUV to US dealers at an annual meeting in Las Vegas yesterday.  The RAV4 is expected to go on sale in 2012.

Tesla (TSLA) Launches Voluntary Recall Of Tesla 2, 2.5 Affecting 439 Roadsters

Tesla Motors (TSLA) announced a voluntary safety recall of 439 Roadsters (2, 2.5) due to a potential fire hazard involving a low voltage auxiliary cable.  The company decided to issue the recall after the cable in a single vehicle rubbed against the edge of a carbon fiber panel, shorting out and smoking.  The fix is a simple placement of a protective sleeve over the cable.

UQM Technologies (UQM) Gets Another Deal With Proterra For 150 Electric Bus Propulsion Systems

UQM Technologies (UQM) announced yesterday it received another large order from hybrid/electric bus manufacturer Proterra and will supply 150 electric propulsion systems for use in their new all electric buses.  The initial supply term is for one year and the total contract could reach $1 million.

Deutsche Bank Sees A123 Systems (AONE) Gaining Market Share

According to Benzinga, Deutsche Bank sees A123 Systems gaining significant market share of the lithium battery market based on achievement so far and comments from OEM’s and competitors that say AONE is a top 3 lithium battery supplier.  They see general consumer demand for EV’s and improving margins as potential catalysts for the stock over the next year.  The firm has a Buy rating and $17 price target which is about double the current … Read the rest

AeroVironment (AVAV) Receives UL Listing For Home Electric Car Charging Station

AeroVironment (AVAV) announced yesterday it received Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing for its electric car home charging stations.  This clears the way for the installations of the charging systems to begin at homes this fall in preparation for the launch of the electric vehicle of a major auto manufacturer according to a press release.  I believe they are referring to the launch of the Nissan Leaf since Nissan chose the AVAV charging system back in January, … Read the rest

Maxwell Technologies (MXWL) Reports Increasing Demand For Ultracapacitor Cells For Hybrid Buses

Yesterday morning Maxwell Technologies (MXWL) reported that sales of its ultracapacitor cell modules for hybrid buses has picked up significantly this year.  The company has shipped modules for more than 1000 buses so far this year and could ship components for 600 more by the end of the year.   The ultracapacitor energy storage systems are used in recuperative breaking systems and deliver stored energy to electric motors for acceleration.

Kandi Technologies (KNDI) Posts Strong Growth

Kandi Technologies (KNDI) reported strong results this morning posting an EPS of .06 on revenues of $9.9 million.  No analysts currently cover the company to compare results.   That’s a 500% jump in EPS and an 80% jump in revenue over the year ago quarter.  Its top selling product, the all electric COCO LSV, accounted for nearly half of its revenues with most of that coming from sales in the US.
