Comverge just announced the release of its new product, the Apollo Demand Response System. The Apollo System is the first demand-response system that links in-home demand-response devices with utility operations and back office applications.

Comverge (COMV), a demand response provider, released mixed results after the bell today. On the EPS side they reported .28/share (beating estimates by .04) and revenues of $33 million was right in line with expectations. With a revenue growth decrease of 22% over the year ago quarter, that stops a streak of 4 consecutive quarters of accelerating revenue growth. Now that Congress has approved the economic stimulus package (aka the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act) with Obama expected to sign it into law on Tuesday I thought I’d give a run down of what’s in this bill related to green energy initiatives.
Overall, nearly 10% of the entire bill provides funding and tax credits for green energy related projects.

Comverge just announced the release of its new smart grid demand response system, the Apollo(R) Demand Response Management System. The Apollo can manage both commercial and residential energy needs as well as demand produced by charging plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. This platform will be used in the Progress Energy Carolina EnergyWise(TM) project and by PEPCO Holdings. Robert M. Chiste, Comverge’s chairman, president and CEO, explained the advantages of this new product:
Comverge just announced a 5 year contract to provide demand response hardware and software to Progress Energy. Progress Energy will use Comverge’s products in its EnergyWise energy efficiency program. This is projected to save 170 MW of energy for Progress Energy during its peak energy use periods. Comverge will install in-home energy displays, smart thermostats and digital controls to homes in the program to help reduce energy consumption.

Comverge, Inc, just completed an energy-efficient lighting project in Times Square. The project involved replacing the lighting system in the Times Square Arts Center at the request of the property owner. As a result of the project, the building is expected to use 190,000 fewer kilowatt hours of energy per year, keeping more than 200,000 pounds of CO2 out of the environment.
