JA Solar (JASO) smashed analyst estimates this morning and has posted the first quarterly profit in a year. The company reported an EPS of .10/share, .07/share better than Wall St estimates. Revenues also smashed estimates coming in at $193 million vs the Wall St estimate of $136 million. This is a big upside surprise out of JASO, but let’s put it in perspective a bit. The EPS number is still a 78% plunge from the … Read the rest

GT Solar (SOLR) Reports Mixed Results, Shares Slump AH
GT Solar (SOLR) reported mixed earnings results after the bell today with a miss on the EPS side (reporting .06/share vs estimates of .07/share) and a beat on the revenue side (reporting $104 million vs estimates of $101.8). EPS was off 68% from the year ago period, so certainly another solar company that is struggling to get growing again. The company isn’t expected to return to year over year growth until 2011.

Comverge (COMV) Report Beats, But Posts Another Large Loss
Comverge (COMV) has reported earnings results this morning and they’re so so in my opinion. The company did beat on both EPS and revenues by reporting a .44/share loss (est .43/loss) on revenues of $33.2 million (est $32.8 million). That’s another increase in revenues over the year ago quarter, but the company isn’t making much headway on EPS.
The CEO didn’t comment on the revenue growth not translating into better EPS numbers, but he did … Read the rest

There wasn’t going to be too much of a surprise in the Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) earnings report. The company has been struggling for a few quarters and that was going to continue. Powersecure International (POWR) Beats The Street
We’ve seen very good results from the smart grid players Echelon (ELON) and EnerNOC (ENOC) and Powersecure (POWR) posted a Wall St beating quarter as well. I won’t say it was a great quarter because revenues (down 17%) and earnings (down 47%) declined over the year ago quarter, but a beat is a beat and the company did acknowledge that in the year ago quarter they completed a large number of projects for Publix Supermarkets … Read the rest

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Posts Better Than Expected Results As Revenues Surge, But Profits Elusive
There are certainly some things to like about Evergreen Solar (ESLR) and some things.. eh not so much. The earnings results reveal it yet again. This is a company that continues to see revenues surging faster than any other solar company, but they just can’t turn a profit. While margins improved this quarter, they just can’t get the costs down to get profitable.
Taking out the $70 million write down from the Sovello joint venture, … Read the rest
Real Goods Solar (RSOL) Surging After Reporting First Profit In 2 Years
While Akeena Solar (AKNS) continues to struggle in the residential solar industry (posted another loss this quarter), Real Goods Solar (RSOL) is back in the black after a nearly two year hiatus. You have to go back to the 2007 4th quarter to find the last profitable quarter and they did it again this quarter. The company posted $200K in profit (.01/share) on revenues of $23 million. Both beat Wall St estimates of a .01/share … Read the rest
