FPL Group (FPL) Reports Strong Quarter, Raises Outlook

FPL Group (FPL) reported earnings this morning and it was a strong quarter in a tough environment.  The leading provider of wind and solar energy reported a non GAAP EPS number of .90/share beating estimates by .13/share.

MEMC Electronics (WFR) Posts 1st Quarterly Loss In 7 Years

OK, this is a great example of an earnings report that can be reported positive by one news outlet (the mainstream) and reported negative by me after one time gains are removed.  You’ll find that most news outlets report the GAAP number which includes one time gains and losses, distorting the true organic growth or deterioration of a company.

Sunpower (SPWRA) Misses Badly, Guides Lower But Up AH

Update: Now it’s being dumped after hours.. down about 10%.

Sunpower (SPWRA) is out with earnings after the bell and missed badly reporting non GAAP EPS of just .05 share vs consensus estimates of .39.  Revenues came in about 20% lower than the year ago quarter at $214 million which is considerably lower than estimates of $269.

Cree Inc (CREE) Beats Estimates, But Reports Flat Growth

Cree Inc (CREE) reported after the bell today and beat lowered expectations by posting a non GAAP EPS of .13/share (beating estimates by .02) on revenues of $131 million which was basically in line with estimates.  While the company beat estimates and guided revenues a touch higher for next quarter, the growth over the year ago quarter was relatively flat.  Earnings were down 7% from the year ago quarter while revenues were up 5%.  That’s … Read the rest

GE Wind Energy Biz Down 8%, Announcing Big China Smart Grid Order Next Week

SolarFun (SOLF) Reports Another Steep Loss, Sees Gradual Improvement

These solar earnings reports really aren’t a surprise anymore.  Just more of the same – global economic weakness, credit difficulties, plummeting raw material prices, an inventory glut and so on.  From here it’s just a matter of demand picking up to offset the weakness in the cost of the finished product.  The important thing to remember is that solar stocks will begin rising long before that equation comes into balance.  We’ve seen a good pop … Read the rest

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) Reports Steep Loss, Stock Rises Anyway

Canadian Solar (CSIQ) reported a much larger loss then expected this morning, posting an EPS loss of 1.39/share after taking out one time costs.  Revenues took a plunge as well, dropping 43% over the year ago quarter to $73 million.

Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT) Misses Estimates: "Difficult to Match 08 Growth in 09"

Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT), which manufacturers lithium ion batteries for cell phones, computers and electric cars continues to report revenue and earnings growth in a tough environment but wasn’t able to match analyst expectations last quarter.  The company reported earnings of .06/share in the 4th quarter, missing estimates by .02/share on revenues of 10.7 million.  Revenues increased by 42% in 2008 over 07 levels, but that growth decelerated every quarter culminating in just 4% growth … Read the rest
