Advanced Battery Tech (ABAT) reported after the bell today results that weren’t all that impressive. I thought there might be a chance of a blowout quarter based on the fact the CEO recently purchase $1 million of ABAT shares, but that certainly wasn’t the case. The company reported an EPS of .07/share which was inline with low expectations. It’s a 13% drop from the year ago quarter. On the revenues side, the company didn’t … Read the rest

Geothermal Leader Ormat Technologies (ORA) Surges On Great Quarter
Ormat Technologies (ORA), the geothermal 800lb gorilla, reported great earnings results this morning beating EPS estimates by .07/share and 33% over the year ago quarter. Revenues surged 44% over the year ago quarter and beat estimates by $11 million at $99.9 million. This was a very impressive quarter. I’ve been wanting to get in on a pull back but it has yet to do so. The stock has now nearly doubled off the March low … Read the rest
Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) Reports Mixed Results
Energy Conversion Devices (ENER) reported earnings results this morning that were a bit better than expected on the EPS side at .03 share but light on the revenue side, reporting $66 million (vs estimates of $69 million). Revenues were a bit off from the year ago quarter but the EPS took a significant hit which is not uncommon across the solar sector (unless you’re First Solar). It was just a few days ago that the … Read the rest
Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) Beats With Another Flat Quarter
Clean Energy Fuels (CLNE) which provides compressed natural gas fueling stations (mostly for commercial vehicles), is still in search of consistent profits and revenue growth. While the company beat estimates slightly posting a loss of .06/share, that marks 5 out of the past 6 quarters the company has been under water. Revenue growth remains stagnant. The company posted revenues of $30.2 which about matched last years quarter. I suppose in this environment flat growth isn’t … Read the rest
Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Smashes Lowball Estimates, Surges AH
Last quarter expectations were much too high for the former high flyer, Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS). The company didn’t match those lofty expectations and the stock has taken a beating. Now that analysts have very little expectations of the company it doesn’t take much to beat and beat they did after the bell today. The company reported an EPS of .44/share which was more than double what analysts had expected. Let’s not get carried away … Read the rest
Real Goods Solar (RSOL): Misses With Mounting Losses
While the solar installers Akeena Solar (AKNS) & Real Goods Solar (RSOL) have perked up a bit technically, fundamentally both remain in dire straits. Akeena Solar (AKNS) reported their miserable quarter several days ago and after the bell today it was Real Goods turn. It wasn’t pretty but RSOL is closer to profitability than AKNS.
The company reported a much wider loss than the year ago period at .08/share which missed analyst expectations of a … Read the rest
Smart Grid Players EnerNoc (ENOC) & Echelon (ELON) Report Earnings
Several days ago Itron (ITRI), the smart grid 800lb gorilla, reported disappointing earnings. Today, the unprofitable up and comers EnerNoc (ENOC) and Echelon (ELON) reported large losses but losses that were considerably less than the estimates.
Echelon (ELON) reported a non GAAP loss of .19/share which beat estimates of a loss of .34 by a wide margin. Revenues also came in better than expected at $18.2 million vs the estimate of $17.8 million. Despite … Read the rest
Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Continues Racking Up Losses, Down 10% AH
Evergreen Solar (ESLR) continues to show why it’s a lagging solar play this afternoon, reporting a whopping quarterly loss of $64.3 million. Granted much of that was due to one time costs ($43.9 million for write offs from future silicon supplier, $3.5 million for Devens facility startup costs & $1.8 million for closure of Marlboro pilot facility), but this is still a company heading in the opposite direction of profitability. Taking out one time costs … Read the rest
Itron (ITRI) Dismal Quarter, Down 9%
Companies involved in the smart grid should do very well in the future, but for now the behemoth in this space, Itron (ITRI) will have to wait to benefit. The company just reported an awful quarter reporting an EPS of .33/share missing estimates by .07/share on revenues of $389 million. That’s a 20% haircut on revenues over last year and a 60% plunge in earnings.
The CEO understated the poor the quarter, calling it “soft”. … Read the rest
