Quantum Fuel Tech (QTWW) has supplied Shell with hydrogen fueling technology and infrastructure equipment to support its station in New York near the entrance to JFK Airport.  The hydrogen fueling station which is open to the public is part of a group of hydrogen fueling stations opened by Shell around New York in partnership with the Port Authority of NY, New Jersey, US Dept of Energy and General Electric.

General Electric just announced that have signed a deal with the Department of Defense worth $2 million to transform a Marine base into a smart microgrid system.  Under the contract, GE will set up a smart microgrid system for the Twenty Nine Palms Marine Base in the Mojave Desert. General Electric (GE) Working With Tendril To Connect New Appliances To Smart Grid

CNET News is reporting that General Electric plans to use software from smart-grid startup Tendril to make its appliances more energy efficient. The software will allow you to control your GE appliances from several different locations, including an in-home display, over the Internet or even through your iPhone (is there anything you CAN’T do with an iPhone these days?). General Electric (GE) and Idaho Labs Get Funding To Change Waste Heat Into Electricity

General Electric and the Idaho National Laboratory just announced that they have received $2 million in funding from the Department of Energy for a project that transforms waste heat into electricity. CNET News estimates that the technology has the potential to improve the efficiency of industrial engines by 20 to 40 percent. The improvements in efficiency come from improving the Organic Rankine Cycle to convert heat from industrial engines into power in a cost-effective manner. … Read the rest

General Electric (GE) Producing Hybrid Water Heaters

General Electric just announced that it will be producing highly energy efficient hybrid water heaters in Louisville, Kentucky. The hybrid water heaters are the first water heaters to meet the Department of Energy’s stricter 2009 Energy Star standards. The water heaters use about 1/2 the energy of conventional water heaters. Manufacturing them in Kentucky will also create about 400  new jobs.

General Electric (GE) is out with news this morning that it’s going to invest $100 million to open a manufacturing plant in NY that will produce advanced batteries, including high energy density, sodium based batteries that will be initially used in GE hybrid locomotives.  The goal is to begin producing new batteries in the new facility within 2 years.

General Electric (GE) Tries To Block Mitsubishi Wind Turbines From US Market

General Electric is trying to get the U.S. International Trade Commission to keep Mitsubishi’s rival wind turbines from entering the US market. According to GE, Mitsubishi’s Turbines use GE technology that infringes on 3 US patents. Here’s more, from the National Wind Watch website:

GE Wind (GE) Expecting Double-Digit Growth

General Electric expects its wind division, GE Wind, to see double-digit growth this year,according to Reuters. The company attributes its expectations for growth to the release of new products and to an increase in sales to European customers, as well as the incentives for wind power that were built in to the US financial stimulus bill.
