GE Wind Energy Biz Down 8%, Announcing Big China Smart Grid Order Next Week

A123 Systems Gets Additional GE Funding

General Electric (GE) continues to invest in Michigan based, lithium ion batter maker A123 Systems, providing another $15 million in financing and gaining a seat on the board in exchange.  This follows the recent announcement that A123 Systems was selected by Chrysler to develop lithium batteries for their line of electric vehicles due out in 2013.. assuming of course Chrysler stays in business or is bought out.  GE now owns about 10% of A123 Systems … Read the rest

GE (GE) And Vestas Wind Systems (VWSF) Take 56% Of US Market

Together, General Electric Company and Vestas Wind Systems took a combined 56% of the US market in 2008, selling an unprecedented 4,648 megawatts. Overall, wind power installations rose by 58% last year, with a total of 8,300 megawatts. 85 Workers Laid Off At General Electric (GE) Solar Plant

General Electric has laid off 85 workers at its solar panel plant in Newark, New Jersey, a workforce cut of about 30 percent.  The plant also reduced production to a single shift. The layoffs were the result of the global economic credit crisis, which has made it more difficult for GE’s customers to get credit for solar projects.

General Electric (GE) To Increase Wind Turbine Deliveries To China

Although GE may deliver 14 percent fewer wind turbines worldwide in 2009, deliveries to China are up. GE says that its Chinese deliveries will double for the next two years as China’s wind market expands by leaps and bounds. From AIndianews.com, here are more details and comments from GE leadership:

General Electric (GE) To Build Wind Farm in Bulgaria

General Electric is considering building a wind farm in the Mirkovo region of Bulgaria. Recently, country’s Economy and Energy Minister met with GM’s Project Manager of GE Infrastructure-Energy to discuss the region’s suitability for wind power generation.

Google’s (GOOG) Energy Efficiency Strategy

There’s a good piece over at Portfolio.com about Google’s green energy initiatives and collaboration with GE.  Google’s goal is to make every home energy efficient so that appliances know when to power up and down while heating and cooling respond automatically to the prices in energy.  Before that can happen big time upgrades must happen in the transmission lines which are horribly outdated and inefficient.

T Boone Pickens Wind Farm Plans On Hold?

Just months ago, the Pickens Plan was all the rage as oil soared to the stratosphere and the credit crisis was just beginning to unravel in a big way.  T Boone Pickens had grand plans of a wind farm filled with $2 billion in wind turbines courtesy of General Electric (GE).  Now those plans seem to be on hold but delivery isn’t expected until 2010.

SunPower (SPWRA, SPWRB) and GE (GE) Work Together To Provide Solar Power To HP

SunPower and GE worked together on a project to provide a solar power system for HP’s printing technology research facility in San Diego, California. SunPower installed one of its SunPower(R) T10 Solar Roof Tile commercial roof systems at the HP building, which will reduce HP’s emission by more than 60 million pounds over the next 30 years.
