Reuters: EPA Biofuels Decision On RFS2 Could Come Today

Prepare for a big move in biofuel plays, possibly today.  Reuters reported yesterday that the EPA could issue new rules (or RFS2 – renewable fuels standard) as soon as today on measuring emissions from biofuels according to an anonymous source.

Biofuels Industry Nervously Anticipating EPA’s New Fuel Rules: PEIX, BIOF, GPRE, CZZ, ADM, VRNM

biofuelsethanol As reported by Agriculture.com’s Don Looker, Margo Oge, director of transportation and air quality at the EPA, did not attend this year’s Iowa Renewable Fuels Association summit because she was busy writing the second draft of the EPA’s new renewable fuel standards. The new standards are expected to be announced very soon, and the continued recovery of the American biofuels industry may hang in the balance.

Clean Energy & Climate Change Funds in the Omnibus Bill

A hat tip to Earth2Tech for laying out the components in the $410 omnibus bill that represent clean energy and climate change.  The “imperfect omnibus bill” was signed into law by Obama today behind closed doors.  Here’s to more government waste but at least there are some clean energy bucks in there..

GreenHunter Biofuels (GRH) Biodiesel Approved By EPA

Greenhunter Biofuels, a subsidiary of Greenhunter Energy (GRH) announced its biodiesel has been approved by the EPA, allowing the company to sell to the US on road market.  The approval greatly increases biodiesel distribution capabilities in the US from its 105 million gallon/year refinery in Houston, Texas, the largest biodiesel refinery in the country.  Most of the biodiesel the company currently produces comes from animal fats but its jatropha plantations are expected to begin contributing … Read the rest
