First Solar (FSLR) In Multi Year Deal With Pfalzsolar

Financial and term details aren’t available yet, but First Solar (FSLR) has announced this morning a multi year supply deal with German solar project developer Pfalzsolar.

“We are pleased to have gained Pfalzsolar as an additional customer in a key market at a key period for the evolution of solar electricity in Europe,” added John Carrington, executive vice president, global marketing & business development.

Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) Gets $3.8 Million From Navy For Lithium Battery Research

Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) is up nearly 15% in after hours of trading after it was announced the company is receiving $3.8 million from the Office of Naval Research for the ongoing research and design of Altair’s large scale lithium battery storage systems for the potential use on Navy ships as un uninterruptible power supply.  The battery would allow the Navy to run only one gas turbine generator efficiently as opposed to two and provide enough … Read the rest

American Superconductor (AMSC) Expanding In India With Inox Wind Energy License

You don’t hear too much about India’s renewable energy efforts, but expect to in the coming years.  It’s an opportunity every bit as big as China, just not as developed yet.  American Superconductor (AMSC) is expanding their presence there in a deal with Inox Wind to license its proprietary 2MW induction wind turbine design.  The deal allows Inox the right to manufacture and sell the turbines globally with production beginning next year.  AMSC will also … Read the rest

Itron (ITRI) Pushes Lower AH On 2.75 Million Share Offering

Itron (ITRI), the smart grid gorilla, is selling off a bit after hours after announcing it is selling 2.75 million shares at 55.81/share.  The company expects to use $125 million of the proceeds to repay a portion of outstanding non-convertible debt and the remainder for general corporate purposes.  Canaccord Adams is the lead, book running manager while Stephens Inc is acting as co-manager on the deal which is expected to close around June 3rd.  I … Read the rest

Ascent Solar (ASTI) Involved In Hybrid UAV Silent Sentinel

A couple days ago Ascent Solar (ASTI) announced its thin film solar PV modules will be used in the development of a hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle called the Silent Sentinel built by Bye Aerospace.  The high efficiency, quiet vehicle will be used primarily for military operations but could be included for civil use as well.

Trina Solar (TSL) Surges On Better Than Expected EPS, Improving Conditions

Trina Solar (TSL) is surging another 7% this morning after the company posted a profit of .33/share (taking out one time costs) vs the expectations of a .05 loss.  Revenues were a bit lighter than expected, but still 9% above the year ago quarter, so certainly better results out of Trina then what we’ve seen from most of its competitors (with the exception of First Solar).

Evergreen Solar (ESLR) Debuts New Campaign At Intersolar

Evergreen Solar is using the Intersolar industry trade show as an opportunity to roll out a new brand campaign. The campaign emphasizes the slogan "More Electricity, Less Impact"  to emphasize the fact that Evergreen Solar’s panels deliver the most energy with the lowest carbon footprint. Evergreen Solar will use the trade show to showcase its new ESA line of panels in this context.

Fuel Systems Solutions (FSYS) Purchases Assets From FuelMaker Corporation

Fuel Systems Solutions Inc just announced that it has finished buying some some assets and some CNG technology from FuelMaker Corporation, including a home CNG refueling appliance. Fuel Systems Solutions bought the technology for $7 million and also agreed to take over some of FuelMaker’s service operations and outstanding purchase orders.

Obama At Nellis Touts Solar, Geothermal (Video)

Prez Obama spoke at Nellis Air Force base today discussing the importance of renewable energy and announcing funding efforts for solar and geothermal.  Nellis Air Force base is home to the largest solar installation in the Western hemisphere and provides 25% of the electricity for the 12000 who live and work at the base, saving the military about $1 million a year.
