Yingli Green Energy (YGE) In 15MW Deal With German Installer Goldbeck Solar

Yingli Green Energy (YGE) is announcing this morning that it will supply Goldbeck Solar of Germany with 15MW of solar modules to be used in industrial buildings in 2009 with the option of an additional 58MW to be purchased by Goldbeck.  Goldbeck specializes in turnkey industrial PV rooftop and ground mounted systems.

JA Solar (JASO) Gets 60MW Supply Deal With Solar Power Inc (SOPW.OB)

JA Solar (JASO) has announced a one year supply deal with China based Solar Power Inc (SOPW.OB) which will supply SPI with 60MW of its 6” polycrystalline photovoltaic cells.  No word on the financials of the deal.

Xcel Energy (XEL) Unveils Ambitious Energy Efficiency Plans For 2009

Xcel Energy started the new year off by unveiling an ambitious energy efficiency plan that could save the same amount of energy that  a  new coal-fired plant would produce. According to MSNBC, in 2009 Xcel plans to invest $63 million in programs aimed at promoting energy efficiency. The company plans to continue the effort by spending $80 million on the programs in 2010.

Vestas Wind Systems (VWSYF) Receives Large Wind Turbine Orders From China

Within the past week, Vestas Wind Systems has received several large orders for its wind turbines from Chinese companies. First, the company announced that it had received an order from China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power. Vesta has supplied China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power with wind turbines in the past. A-Power (APWR) Will Open Chinese Wind Turbine Production Facility This Month

 

On January 11, A-Power Energy Generation Systems will inaugurate its first wind turbine production facility. Located in Shenyang, China, the facility can produce up to 1,125MW of wind turbines each year. By opening the facility, A-Power will formally launch its wind turbine production business.

Ener1 (HEV) Applies For $480 Million Federal Loan

Ener1 (HEV) has applied for a $480 million low interest loan from the government as a part of a federal program called the Advanced Technology Vehicle Manufacturing Incentive Program to spur the development of the next generation of electric vehicles.  The $25 billion program, administered by the Dept of Energy will be used to aid auto companies in the retooling of their manufacturing facilities to improve auto efficiencies.

Solars Hold Up Well Despite Piper Jaffray Estimate Cuts

According to StreetInsider.com, Piper Jaffray is out cutting estimates on the solar sector due to poor visibility.  Piper analyst Jesse Pichel lowered industry estimates for the 1st half of 09 and downgraded their rating of Canadian Solar (CSIQ) to Sell and ReneSola (SOL) to Neutral due to low order visibility for Q1 in Germany and zero visibility in other markets but expects some recovery in late spring, early summer but only if credit markets … Read the rest
