Constellation Energy (CEG) Completes McCormick Spice Mill Installation

Constellation Energy just completed a 1 MW solar power installation at the McCormick Spice Mill in Hunt Valley, Maryland. The plant will contribute enough energy to offset 30% of McCormick’s energy costs at that location. Here’s a description of the installation from PV-Tech.org:

The plant is comprised of 2,100 Solar World 175-watt crystalline solar panels and 92,000 square feet of lightweight, flexible thin-film photovoltaic material.

LDK Solar (LDK) Investors Receive Class Certification In Lawsuit

The class action suit against LDK Solar took another step forward last week when Judge William Alsup approved a class consisting of anyone who purchased LDK shares. According to Law360, the lawsuit alleges that "LDK Solar Co. Ltd. and its executives committed a massive securities fraud by inflating the value of the company’s inventory of raw materials and understating the costs of producing solar wafers, which are used in devices that convert sunlight into electricity." … Read the rest

National Grid Places D-VAR Order With American Superconductor Corporation (AMSC)

National Grid, the company that manages power in Long Island, New York, for American Superconductor Corporation’s D-VAR Statcom service. This Smart Grid service will help maintain the efficiency and reliability of Long Island’s electrical grid. Under the agreement, AMSC will install the D-VAR Statcom service for National Grid by 2010.

About the D-VAR Statcom service:

D-VAR dynamic reactive compensation systems are classified as Static Compensators, or “STATCOMs,” a member of the FACTS (Flexible AC-Transmission System)

Court Rules In Zoltek’s (ZOLT) Favor In Carbon Fiber Patent Litigation

Zoltek Corporation just announced that the U. S. Court of Federal Claims has ruled in their favor in their carbon fiber patent litigation against Lockheed Martin, and will allow the company to pursue its patent claims against Lockheed Martin in Atlanta’s Federal District Court.

Synergy And Carnegie Corporation (CNM) Sign Memorandum Of Understanding On Wave Energy

Synergy, the largest utility in Western Australia, has signed a memorandum of understanding with Carnegie Corporation, promising to buy power from Carnegie’s CETO wave energy project once the project is completed. The project is still in the planning stages, and Carnegie is currently in the process of selecting a site. Initially, the CETO project is expected to generate 6 W of energy, but if it’s successful, power generation can be increased later to 50 MW. … Read the rest

Trina Solar (TSL) And GA Solar Sign Sales Contract

Trina Solar just announced a new sales agreement with GA Solar.  Under the terms of the one-year contract, Trina Solar will provide 20 to 36 MW of PV modules to GA Solar throughout 2009. The modules will be sold at the prices specified in the agreement.

Mr. Arturo Herrero, Trina Solar’s Sales and Marketing VP, commented on the deal:

UQM Techologies (UQM) Revenue Expands, Still No Profits In Sight

SunPower (SPRWA, SPWRB) Beats Estimates, Shares Surge After Hours

Suntech (STP) Signs Supply Deal With Standard Solar

Suntech Power Holdings Co., Ltd has signed a 1 year, 5 MW supply deal with Standard Solar, Inc. Under the agreement, Suntech will supply 5 MW of solar panels to Standard Solar this year. The companies have not disclosed the amount of money involved, nor what product Standard Solar will use these solar panels for.

Cree (CREE) Releases New GaN HEMT Microwave Transistors

Cree just released samples of two new products: two 120MW GaN HEMT microwave transistors that can be used in telecommunications applications like Wi-Fi and for high-speed cell phone data transmission. These transistors would be compatible with both 3G and 4G cell networks, and could be used by both GSM and CDMA carriers.
