American Superconductor (AMSC) Beats, Guides A Bit Higher

American Superconductor (AMSC) reported Q2 results this morning with an EPS of $0.28, 4 cents better than the analyst estimate on revenues of $97.2 million, which beat estimates calling for $93.43 million.  That represents a more than doubling of profits over the year ago quarter on revenues that were 32% higher than the year ago quarter.  Gross margins increased 10% to 40% over the year ago quarter.  Another strong quarter out of AMSC which makes … Read the rest

Winner In Proposed Energy Bill – Natural Gas Fuel Stocks CLNE, FSYS, WPRT

In proposed legislation introduced by Senator Harry Reid yesterday, it was clear that the natural gas fuel providers and parts suppliers may be big beneficiaries.  Along with establishing a Nat Gas Vehicle and Infrastructure Development Program within the DOE, nearly $4 billion in rebates would be provided to purchasers of nat gas vehicles as well as another $2.5 billion for grants for infrastructure and R&D.

Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) Reports Mixed Results; Expects To Remain Profitable

Green Plains Renewable (GPRE) reported mixed results after the bell today, but it still represented another quarter of big quarter over quarter growth.  The company missed the EPS analyst estimate of .36, posting .27, but came in ahead of analyst estimates on the revenue side, posting $453 million vs the estimate of $426 million.  If my math is correct that’s an 800% increase in earnings over the year ago quarter and a 60% surge in … Read the rest

Itron (ITRI) Surging 10% After Posting Strong Earnings

It’s been a rough few months for Itron (ITRI), culminating in a 10% plunge several days on news it has likely lost a big smart meter deal with Sempra Energy (SRE) to Esco Technologies (ESE).  After the bell today, the stock is continuing to erase that loss after the company reported strong results after the bell.

Auriga Raises First Solar (FSLR) Price Target To $173

First Solar, Inc. (FSLR, $136.31, $11,626mln Market Cap, Buy, $173.00 Price Target)

Auriga is out this morning maintaining its Buy rating and upping the price target on First Solar (FSLR) to $173 (27% above current levels).  The firm sees significantly less exposure to the Euro next year and higher production levels so is increasing 2011 EPS of $8.64.

A-Power (APWR) Subsidiary Partners With Baoding Huide

A-Power Energy Generation Systems announced yesterday that its subsidiary, Shenyang Lucky Wind Power Equipments, has entered a partnership with Baoding Huide Wind Power Engineering. Sunpower (SPWRA) Completes 1MW Solar System For Yolo County

Sunpower (SPWRA) has finished construction on a 1MW solar system for the Yolo Country Justice Campus in California.  The system will be owned by the Justice Center which financed the project through clean energy subsidized bonds financed by Bank of America as well as a 15 year loan from the Cali Energy Commission.  The project is using the Sunpower Tracker system which tracks the sun’s movement for greater efficiency.

Raser (RZ) To Deliver Extended Range Electric Trucks To PG&E This Year

Raser Technologies just announced that it will be delivering the first of its extended range electric fleet trucks to PG&E next year. The electric trucks use a combination of lithium-ion batteries and an onboard, gasoline powered generator called a “range extender.” 

Raser also plans to offer the E-REV powertrain used in these vehicles in popular GM and Ford trucks and SUVs.

Solarfun (SOLF) Awarded Italian Contracts Totaling 12MW

Solarfun Power (SOLF) has been awarded two Italian contracts totaling 12MW it was announced this morning.  One contract for 6MW of solar modules was signed with GranSolarGhella while the other of the same size was signed with Tozzi Renewable Energy.  All modules are expected to be delivered in the second half of this year.

NYT On Tesla (TSLA) & Elon Musk: Hype & Arrogance Don’t Equal Success
