According to Reuters, Exelon Energy Co just announced that it has signed a uranium supply deal with Tenex, a Russian nuclear fuel exporter owned by the Russian government. Under the terms of the agreement, Tenex will supply Exelon with uranium for nuclear energy for a period of six years, from 2014 to 2020.
The amounts of uranium involved were not disclosed. Nor were the financials of the deal.
Xcel Energy just announced a partnership with 42U as part of its Data Center Efficiency Program. Under the agreement, 42U will work with Xcel Energy’s data center customers to help them find ways to become more efficient and use less energy.
42U will act as a consultant to participating Xcel customers, reviewing their operations and making recommendations. Xcel Customers can get rebates for each kilowatt of energy saved after they make the suggested improvements.
Appliance Recycling Centers of America (ARCI) popped about 30% an hour ago, but is well off those highs after it was announced that it’s been awarded a contract by Xcel Energy (XEL) to provide refrigerator recycling services for the utility’s residential electric customers in Colorado and New Mexico. Xcel Energy just announced that it will convert its Bay Front Power Plant in Ashland, WI, to run completely off of biomass. The company plans to install biomass gasification technology in the last coal-fired unit at the plant, once regulators. Under the current timeline, the plant could be completely converted by 2012.

Xcel Energy and SunPower are working together to build a 17 MW PV solar plant in Colorado. The plant is expected to be finished 2010, and will be the second-largest high-efficiency solar PV power plant in North America. SunPower’s Tracker system will be utilized to increase power generation from the plant.

And another installment in the drama between NRG and Exelon…NRG Energy, struggling to defend itself from a hostile takeover by Exelon, has filed a lawsuit against Exelon. In the suit, NRG claims that Exelon’s offer to NRG shareholders was a "sham" intended to compel NRG to negotiate and that Peco Energy customers could see a dramatic increase in their electric bills in the event of a takeover.
NRG Energy has issued an open letter to its shareholders regarding Exelon’s attempt to force a merger between the two companies. The letter argues that Exelon’s offer is not high enough to be fair to NRG’s stockholders and that NRG’s recent deals with Reliant Retail and eSolar have added value to the company. In the letter, NRG also expressed concern about Exelon’s financial standing, including its relative value, financing plan and managing plan.
Exelon Energy has introduced a new product, the Emission-Free Energy Certificate, to help its business customers demonstrate their environmental commitment to the public. The certificate will be offered initially to existing commercial and industrial customers as part of a pilot program.

Xcel Energy just announced a new deal with Microgy, Inc that will allow Xcel to turn organic waste into methane to generate energy. The methane generation will take place near Xcel’s Fort St. Vrain Generating Station. A new methane plant will be built for this purpose, with construction slated to begin in 2010. Initially, the project will produce 915,000 MMBtu of methane, which is enough to power 17,000 homes per year.
Xcel Energy customers in Colorado will soon be able to check their household carbon emissions online via Xcel’s website. The company may also offer more in-depth carbon calculation tools to help customers determine the total size of their carbon footprint, including emissions produced by food, water and transportation, according to the DenverPost.com.
