Altair Nanotechnologies (ALTI) To Fill $54,000 Order For Hybrid Battery Packs From DesignLine International

Altair Nanotechnologies announced today that DesignLine International has placed an order for 4 of their hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) battery packs, at a total cost of $54,000. Altair will supply Designline International with the battery cells, assemble them into working battery modules, and train Designline International’s employees to assemble future products from Altair on their own. The initial 4 battery packs will be used on city transit buses and for a modular testing program.

Proterra To Showcase Hybrid-electric Transit Bus Using UQM Technologies’ (UQM) Engine In San Diego

UQM Technologies announced that Proterra LLC will showcase a prototype of Proterra’s its HFC 35 composite body, zero-emission, battery-dominant hybrid-electric transit bus at the American Public Transportation Exposition in San Diego. The bus is powered using UQM’s PowerPhase® 150 propulsion system. The HFC 35 can carry 37 passengers, and it will make it’s real-world debut as part of a nationwide trial sponsored by the FTA starting in 2009.

UQM Technologies (UQM) Rockets Higher on Chrysler Electric Car Speculation

UQM Technologies (UQM) is soaring over 50% today on no news, but StreetInsider.com is reporting that it might have something to do with speculation that Chrysler will be using a UQM product in one of its upcoming electric cars, scheduled to start shipping in two years.  It’s a bit strange though because the Wall St journal reported yesterday that Chrysler is in advanced talks with A123 Systems, which is planning to IPO soon.

Senate Extends Green Energy Tax Credits & Solar Is the Big Winner

Toyota (TOYOF) And EDF Energy Test Plug-In Hybrid Vehicles In The UK

Toyota Motor Corp has teamed up with European energy company EDF Energy to begin testing plug-in hybrids on UK public roads. EDF will assist with the tests by building charging ports where drivers can plug in their cars and top off their batteries. Toyota has run several other tests of plug-in hybrids in other countries. Quantum Fuel Systems (QTWW) Misses On Earnings

Quantum Fuel Systems (QTWW), a leader in the development and production of advanced propulsions systems, energy storage technologies and alternative fuel vehicles reported earnings this morning much lower than what analysts had been expecting.
