American Superconductor (AMSC) Amends Sinovel Contract To Meet Increasing China Wind Energy Demand
American Superconductor (AMSC) announced this evening that they are increasing their shipments to China’s largest wind turbine manufacturer Sinovel in order to meet increased demand. The amended contract will increase the number of AMSC’s PowerModule PM3000MW power converters which allows Sinovel to include grid friendly features with its wind turbines, such as controlling power flows, regulating voltage, monitoring system performance and maximizing efficiency. The overall contract value increases by $20 million for AMSC.

China Offers New Subsidies For Solar Power (STP, YGE, TSL)
The Chinese government just announced it will offer significant new subsidies to solar power manufacturers. According to Reuters, the government will cover 50 percent of investments for solar power projects and necessary power transmission and distribution projects. ReneSola (SOL) Completes Trial Run At New Sichuan Plant
Renesola (SOL) has announced that the first trial run has been completed at its shiny new plant in China’s Sichuan province. This is the first phase of a two phase, 3000 MT annualized capacity plant which uses the Siemens process and a closed loop to produce the polysilicon. Phase 2 is expected to reach mechanical completion in September.

A-Power (APWR) Continues Push Into Biofuels Industry With $14 Million Sanmenxia Deal
A-Power Energy (APWR) is mostly cited as a top wind energy play, but the company continues to announce contracts to develop biofuel plants in China. China Government Invests $44 Million In A-Power Energy (APWR) Shenyang Power Group
A-Power Energy (APWR) is announcing today that the Shenyang government is planning to invest a total of $44 million in the Shenyang Power Group which is a local industry alliance headed by A-Power (60% owner) to pursue large scale clean energy projects both within and outside of China. As part of the investment, the government will appoint a local Shenyang bank and guaranty company to participate in the alliance.
