TransAlta (TAC) Kent Hills Wind Farm Is Online

Canadian utility Trans-Alta announced that their Kent Hills Wind Farm is now up and running. The wind farm will generate up to 96 megawatts of electricity for TransAlta customers, and can be expanded in the future to produce an additional 54 MW. This brings TransAlta’s wind power capacity to a grand total of 248 MW.

Hopefully, this will boost TransAlta’s stock somewhat. Upstreamonline.com notes that

Vestas Wind Systems (VWSYF) Receives Large Wind Turbine Orders From China

Within the past week, Vestas Wind Systems has received several large orders for its wind turbines from Chinese companies. First, the company announced that it had received an order from China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power. Vesta has supplied China Guangdong Nuclear Wind Power with wind turbines in the past. A-Power Energy (APWR) Pummeled After Slashing 4Q Guidance

A-Power Energy (APWR) is once again testing all time lows after taking a 25% hit today on news the company has dramatically lowered 4th quarter guidance from the previous estimate of $158 million in revenue and $15.5 million in profit to $76 million in revenue and just $5 million in profit due to postponed contracts.

Zoltek (ZOLT) Reports Earnings: "Fundamentals of Wind Energy Extremely Solid"

Zoltek (ZOLT), provider of carbon materials that go into the manufacturing of wind turbines reported results this morning that beat analyst estimates by .02/share when excluding a one time legal fee charge.  The company reported earnings of .22/share (10% below the year ago quarter) on revenues of 51 million, which was good for a 17% increase over the year ago quarter.

Duke Energy (DUK) To Provide WalMart (WMT) With Wind Energy

Walmart has announced a partnership with Duke Energy which will supply wind power for about 15% of the energy load in 360 of its stores and facilities in Texas.  Walmart, who has a lofty ambition of using only renewable energies in the future will pay traditional energy rates for the wind power which will come from a new wind farm under construction in Notrees, Texas beginning in April of next year.… Read the rest

T Boone Pickens Wind Farm Plans On Hold?

Just months ago, the Pickens Plan was all the rage as oil soared to the stratosphere and the credit crisis was just beginning to unravel in a big way.  T Boone Pickens had grand plans of a wind farm filled with $2 billion in wind turbines courtesy of General Electric (GE).  Now those plans seem to be on hold but delivery isn’t expected until 2010.

Kaydon (KDN) Gets Buy Rating From Deutsche Bank

I reported yesterday that Kaydon (KDN), the maker of specialty ball bearings for the wind market reported so so results but that much of the negativity had most likely already been built in.  Apparently, Deutsche Bank feels the same way and upgraded the stock from Hold to Buy this morning, saying:

Kaydon Corp (KDN) Misses Expectations

Kaydon Corp (KDN), the maker of specialty ball bearings for wind turbines reported less than stellar results this morning but managed to hold up reasonably well today, off less than 1%.  Undoubtedly, much of the negativity has already been priced into the stock which is down more than 50% in a month.  The company reported Q3 EPS of .50/share, .11 below analyst estimates while revenue was about 9 million below consensus estimates at 126.8 million.… Read the rest
