Cree, Inc (CREE) Achieves Industry-Best Test Results On LED

Cree, Inc announced that is has achieved industry-best research and development results with a white power LED capable of delivering 161 lumens per watt. The tiny LED used in the test measured only 1 square millimeter, but was able to deliver 173 lumens of light, with an efficacy of 161 lumens per watt under normal LED conditions. Ener1 (HEV) And Kyushu Electric Power Team Up to Create Fast Charging Stations For Electric Vehicles

Ener1 announced yesterday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding  with Japanese power and utility giant Kyushu Electric Power (KEPCO). Per the memorandum of understanding, the two companies will work together to develop and produce rapid charging stands for electric vehicles. They will use KEPCO’s existing rapid charging station, already in use in Japan, as a base, and customize it with the EnerDel High Energy Pack System from Ener1. Trina Solar (TSL) Plunges Further After Beating But Cutting Forecasts

Trina Solar (TSL) is down nearly 10% in premarket trading after beating estimates for both EPS and revenues for the quarter but guiding below for Q4 and full year 08.  The company reported an EPS of 1.17, good for a 318% increase over the year ago quarter and topping estimates by .07 on revenues of 290.7 million (beating estimates by about a million).

LDK Solar (LDK) Reports 3rd Quarter Results, Growing Sales Fuel Higher Earnings

In some good news, LDK Solar reported its 3rd quarter results today. The company’s third quarter earnings jumped due to higher demand and increased sales. For example, revenue jumped a whopping 241% to $541.8 million, beating the company’s own predictions. Net income increased from $41.6 million, or 37 cents per American Depositary share, one year ago to $88.4 million or 77 cents per ADS, beating Wall Street analysts’ expectations of 71 cents per share. … Read the rest

American Superconductor (AMSC) & Shenyang Blower Works Partner For Wind Turbine Development In China

Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) In Joint Venture for Algae Biofuel

Green Plains Renewable Energy (GPRE) has announced a joint venture with Clarcor (CLC), BioProcessH2O and NTR to form BioProcessAlgae LLC with an aim to commercialize algae biofuels.  The join venture company expects to produce algae at Green Plains ethanol plant in Shenandoah, Iowa.

ReneSola (SOL) Shares Plunge Premarket After Beating Estimates But Issuing Weak Revs Outlook; COO Resignation

Shares of ReneSola (SOL) are off nearly 15% in premarket trading after the company reported an EPS for the 3rd quarter of .46/share, which topped estimates of .36/share but the company sees FY08 revs of $640 to 670 vs estimates of $698.  In addition, the COO resigned effective Nov 1 to pursue other interests.

MEMC Electronics (WFR) Gets Downgrade, Lowers Sales Outlook

Not a good day for MEMC Electronics (WFR) today.  It didn’t start out well with Collins Stewart downgrading the stock from Buy to Hold on falling polysilicon prices which resulted in reducing Q4 08 and 1H 09 projections to reflect the falling prices.  The stock closed down today nearly 13% to a new multi year low.

According to StreetInsider.com, MDB Capital is upgrading Ener1 (HEV) this morning from Hold to Buy and increased the price target from $7.50 to $10.  The analyst believes that HEV will meet or exceed its 09 volume commitment for the Think vehicle and is positioned for significant growth based on..
