With Quantum Fuel’s (QTWW) Help, Jesse James Sets New Land Speed World Record For Hydrogen Car

Last week, Jesse James (of West Coast Choppers fame) set a new land speed world record at 199.712 MPH with a hydrogen fueled car, developed in part by Quantum Fuel Systems (QTWW), called the Streamliner.  The milestone event, which took place in the Mojave Desert, will be shown in your living rooms on Sunday, August 9th at 10 PM ET/PT on Spike TV.

Aerovironment (AVAV) Beats On EPS & Revenues, Sees Opportunity In Defense & Electric Cars Infrastructure

Aerovironment (AVAV) is pushing higher in after hours trading after beating both EPS and revenue estimates by a small margin.  While EPS came in 10% lower than the year ago quarter, it did beat analyst estimates by a penny a share.  Revenues increased 18% over the year ago quarter and also beat estimates (by about 5%).  The company attributed the revenue increase to stronger sales in the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (up $9.4 million) and Efficient … Read the rest

Ford, Nissan, Tesla Motors Get Billions In Govt Cash For Electric Vehicles

The Obama administration is announcing this morning that it’s providing billions to Ford, Nissan and Tesla Motors for the development of hybrid and electric vehicles.  Ford will receive the bulk of the $8 billion allotted, which is the first chunk of loan commitments provided as part of the DOE’s Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing program to further the advancement of fuel efficient vehicles in the US.  Ford will use the cash to transform factories in Illinois, … Read the rest

EnerDel (HEV) Gets $3.3 Million DOE Contract For Lithium Battery Research

EnerDel (HEV) has been awarded a $3.3 million contract by the Dept of Energy research for better safety and performance of lithium batteries.  The research, to be conducted jointly with Argonne National Laboratories, will be funded under the DOE’s Vehicle Technologies Program and aim to eliminate the overcharging of batteries at the chemical level.  EnerDel and Argonne have worked together in the past, receiving the Excellence in Technology Transfer award for their lithium-titanate chemistry. … Read the rest

UQM Technologies (UQM) Nets Military Orders Worth $2.77 Million

UQM Technologies just announced that the company has received $2.77 million worth of orders from the US military over the past 90 days. The orders are for propulsion systems, generators and engineering activities and projects. For example, the most recent order is from the US Navy and provides UQM with $750,000 to improve the torque of electric motors and to work with the University of Texas on an advanced gearbox.

Capstone (CPST) Integrates C30 Microturbine Into Ford S-Max Plugin Hybrid (Whisper Eco-Logic)

capstone ford s-max Capstone (CPST) is soaring nearly 50% this morning after the company announced that it has successfully integrated its C30 liquid fueled microturbine into a Ford S-Max plugin hybrid which was designed and modified by Langford Performance Engineering.  The C30 kicks in after 40 miles, extending the electric range by working to charge to the lithium batteries.  Langford reports that the car, named the “Whisper Eco-Logic” is getting up to 80 mpg in early testing.

AeroVironment (AVAV) Partners With Nissan and District of Columbia

AeroVironment just announced that it will be cooperating with Nissan and the District of Columbia to set up an electric car infrastructure in DC. The plan is to build a network of AeroVironment’s PosiCharge charging stations for the city’s fleet of electric vehicles, and make them available to regular citizens to encourage them to buy electric cars of their own.

Valence (VLNC) Signs MOU With Siemens To Develop Lithium Batteries For Boats

Valence (VLNC) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Siemens this morning to develop advanced battery storage solutions for marine applications to be compatible with Siemen’s ELFA Hybrid drive marine propulsion system.  I for one look forward to the day when battery powered boats are the norm.  Gasoline powered boats are highly inefficient and big polluters of lakes, rivers and oceans… that includes noise pollution from jet skis!
